If you are getting in deep or hitting the water too fast , you will suck steam from the head pipe and the big griz will have an asma attack and then clear out and run fine this happens to me alot.If you do alot of deep water and mud you may want to snorkel everything . I have been thinking of it myself.

OggyDoggy - This also happens to me ALL THE TIME!! It reaqlly stinks that I can't "hit the creek" wide open and not end up with baa baa baa. It doesn't seem to clear up on mine. 02 Grizzly 660. Is there any thing that can be done other than snorkles? Will an air box snorkle fix this problem? Thanks!!

I don't have a solution for your problem but I will tell you this, the next time you hit the mud, try putting your grizz in low range. I have the same problem with my grizz even in som shalow mud holes. I can put my grizz in low range and problem vanishes. I think it has something to do with belt sensor or something of that nature. Wish I had an answer so I could correct problem. I hate putting my grizz in low to hit mud holes. Give it a try and let me know if it works for you.

If you have the diff lock on...try using the override button, and see if the sputtering goes away. you might just be bouncing off the rev limiter, which is set lower when in diff lock.
Theres no kind of sensor for the belt.
If you were in dry sand, instead of in mud..and drove the same, would it cut out then? That would eliminate water as being a factor. With those big tires, and no clutch mods, you might just be running out of power.
Have you put dielectric grease on the spark plug outer shell, and plug cap? Water could be shorting out the plug, once it gets wet, and the dielectric grease will stop that.

yea, i have done everything to eliminate the water factor, held the brakes, posted up on a light pole and other things the tires turn on over on the rizz.. i was in teh mud agin last week it would do fine until i open the throtle, the steam sounds like a good solution, but i dont want to snorkel the i dont want a big hole in the gas cover. thanks . It just stumps the heck out of me!

Next time youre muddin, try removing the side covers, and see if the situation improves. This helps disapate the steam before getting to the intake.
If it improves then you know your chasing the right problem. If its still bad, then youve got something else going on.
