I've been looking at the Yamaha Kodiak 4x4 and the Honda Rancher. But do not know wich is the best performer as speed, power, and handling ability.I only do light work and mostly trail riding and mudding.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kodiak in my opinion is the better quad. One brother has a Foreman, another brother has a King Quad, and my father has a Sportsman. We all agree that these are great machines and each do something’s better then the others, but for an all around performer you cannot go wrong with the Kodiak.

The Kodiak is a liguid cooled 401cc,selectable 4wd,disk braked with a low range gear option. The Rancher is a air cooled 339cc,full time 4wd,drum braked, 5 speed quade.

Which bike would you think is better? I would get the Rancher if it was $1500 less in price compared to the Kodiak but I do not think they are.

Being a Kodiak owner, I'm somewhat biased. Therefore all I'm going to say on the matter is that there must be a good reason that Kodiak has been named best atv of the year.

Yes, in my opinion I would get the Kodiak just because it has disc brakes. I haven't had the bestest of luck in the past with drums.

I would go with the kodiac if I were you. I am the proud owner of a 93 Kodiac myself. After the run that I just put my bike through I tip my hat to Kodiac. The bike saw all exteme trail riding from spinning my way through bog to falling through the ice in to 2 ft of water. There was no change in the bike's responce to mud or ice. It just wanted to continue roaring through. All that I do recommend is be sure to purchase a winch for the bike.
