The 2006 450 kodiak has an over-ride button. At least mine does. Never tried it tho.

Hey, don't know if you have resolved this yet, but I just pulled out my 2006 Kodiak Service manual and it seems pretty straightforward.

It looks to me like there is only 1 wire to concern yourself with to prevent the rev limiter from activating and only 2 wires if you want your reverse light to still work.

Here's what it looks like to me; it looks like the wire from the reverse switch, Green with a White tracer (G/W), goes directly to the CDI box. When put into reverse, this wire grounds out. When the CDI box sees this G/W wire grounded it activates the rev limiter and turns the reverse light on via a Green and Blue wire (G/L), which the CDI box grounds to turn the light on.

So, simple cutting (or disconnecting) the Green with White tracer wire from the Reverse switch should prevent the rev limiter from ever coming on again. Cutting both the Green with White tracer wire from the Reverse switch and the Green with Blue tracer wire from the CDI box and then connecting the two wires together should both prevent the rev limiter from activating AND allow the reverse light to come on when the vehicle is placed into reverse.

Hey Vince

That's some good info! Have you tried it yet? If I have time tonight, I'll give it a try and let everyone know how it goes...

It works on the Grizzly and the Kodiak. I recommend putting in a switch though, so you can turn it on when you want. When it's on, your reverse light indicator won't work... (a good way for you to know it's on, right?) It's also good to be able to disable it, for safety reasons... I've got one on my 02 griz, and my 05 kodiak... I'll be sticking it on my 06 grizz soon...

The over ride button on your bike is not for the rev limiter. It is for the diff lock. When you have the diff lock on and you push that button it is suppose to temporarly unlock the diff so you can turn sharper. And yes I have seen the rev limiter over rids on e-bay but I would not recomend putting one on it. You could cause damage to the black box. The best way I can think of to over come that is to find a place you can buy a hot black box from that will take care of it. But I have looked but not found one yet.

The override button is an engine rev override. The wire is the same on all the yamaha ultramatics, and serves the same purpose. Adding the switch and ground wont hurt a thing(if you follow the instructions on grizzhoppers site). The stock rev limiter cant be over ridden, just the lower level limiter is over riden.
Thousands of us have done the over ride, and it works.
