Wolverine Jetting

Hey Glenn...
Took a look at your Pics and they look pretty darn close to me. Don't go all the way down to a 140, you will be lean. If you still think you are rich, try a 142.5
With the colder weather coming, you will start to run a little leaner and the 145 is probably going to be just right.
Before I made my last round of changes, I was running a Noss air filter setup. That is a really nice setup, I think you will be happy with it.
BTW, nice Pics, they are a big help.

Thanks Tom! I figure the pics will do a better job than me babbling along in 15 paragraphs. LOL!
Maybe I'll just leave it as is for now. That's a very good point regarding the cold weather. Aside from the faint gas smell, the machine ran like a champ...no problems at all. I guess what's mildly confusing is that the K&N should have leaned out the mix a bit since it probably flows much better than the stock filter design. I can see why fuel injection is such a great thing..HA!
I agree. The Noss is a great setup and priced right to boot. With shipping and the outterwear, it was more reasonable than just the flange and the K&N from Pro Designs.

Glenn... you gas smell could be from not getting the carb back to level therefore, while riding, and the fuel sloshing in the bowl, you get a bit of overflow. While in motion, you'll never smell it, but when you stop, the air drafting you catches and passes you carrying with it your fuel vapors.
put your quad in the garage and take a gander at it, let us know what you find.
I too agree that the plug looks pretty good.

I know this thread is old, but rather than creating a new one I figured add more info to a current one.
When you changed the main jet did you have to do any other tweaks to the carb?
I just got a 2000 Wolverine and it has a K&N stock replacement filter and FMF Megamax with 9 disks and the silencer tube in it. The guy before told me he did not rejet. When I was going up a hill in 1st gear it bogged way down to no power so I had to back down and get a better running start to it. Think changing the main may help? Should I remove the silencer, remove or add disks to the muffler?

No problem on the old thread!
I'd bump up the main a bit. While you're in there, clean out the carb bowl. THese carbs seem to have an issue with collecting crud in the bowl.
Do you know if he has the quiet core insert in there?
By the Jets from a dealer. You can usually get two for around $10. I went with a 145 main jet.

I checked the plug and it actually looked rich, but I have been putting around the house, so I'll check it right after riding. The quiet pipe was in the muffler, but last night I took it out and put 6 plates in there to see how it does.
I opened the carb bowl and it looked pretty clean but I still cleaned it out. I checked the main and it is a 140. The dealer has to order the 145 jet, but it is only $3.25.

Thanks.
From FMF's site to get more bottom end which is what I want, I should use the quiet core and 8 disks. Says 8 is the least amount of disk to use. In the Jet section says to use 142-145 main jet. So I will try all that out and see what happens.
I also called FMF and told them that 2 of my bolts were frozen in there and broke off when I tried to remove them, and another one just spun, so I had to drill it out. They said send it back with the reciept and they will fix it.

That's cool of them! I found a little anti sieze on those bolts goes a long way. Just make sure you tighten them good to be safe.
How do you like those swamp Foxes? I went with the 489 AT when replacing my tires this past summer.
