what would be better for trail riding and weekend REC.

 

the blaster is an insane quad, but its has way more accel and speed and power than those other 250 four strokes, my freidns rips in the the trails and is nasty except during the winter it isnt as good cause it spins in the snow, but if you put chains on some aggressive tires it isnt bad. i would go with the blaster if you can handle it, also if you put some money into modding a blaster it will show much mroe than in a 250 ex. Blasters get unleashed with a few simple mods

Woa there cowboy, the blaster came out in the 80's....since then weve had a bit more insane and ripping quads on the market...lol. You sound like your trying to sell one to tim farr.

 

I would go w/ the blaster too. Stock it doesnt have crazy power but you can get wayyyy
more for it than the honda. Pistons, big bores, crankshafts, air filters, pipes, jet kits, race
carbs, fuel additives, etc. The honda doesnt even have half as many.

 

Yea, honda blows for the aftermarket community. Its also a slow one indeed. The blaster is way way way way way way way way way way better for the buck. And it responds better to mods than a p.o.s honda, and it has a lot more.

 

If you go to the Honda forum, eceryone will say go with the Honda. My best advice is to ride both and see which one you like better. One persons opinion of how good it is means nothing. Its your decision. Do the research.

 

i bought my wife the 250ex because i thought it was a great beginner bike for her. ultimately she decided that she did not like riding a quad (they scare her) and now she wants a ranger/rhino. the 250ex is a good quad and from what i've read and seen, it would appear that it's damned near indestructable. however, the blaster does have more potential for improved performance. if that is what you are looking for then by all means get the blaster. however, if you want a bike that you never have to worry about, has electric starting/reverse, and enough power to have fun with, then get the 250ex.
personaly, i would get the blaster. i bought my 700r thinking that it had more than enough power and that it would never have anything aftermarket touch it other than nerf bars. unfortunately the bug cought on early and now i realise the error in my thinking....stock just isn't enough. you always want more, regardless of what bike it is. the blaster will give you more of an opportunity to upgrade and improve upon it's stock performance than the 250ex will.

 

It depends on what's more important to you, either you get better handling and bulletproof reliability from the honda, or more power and aftermarket potential with the blaster. Both machines have their strong points and weak points, but for trail riding i'd choose the 250ex any day because of the auto clutch, smooth power delivery, and more comfortable riding position. The blaster will wear you out quick, between the stiff shocks, excessive shifting and clutching, kick starting it, concentrating on keeping it in the powerband, and pushing it because you don't have reverse. Not to mention having to put up with that burning oil smell all day (your riding buddies will prefer the honda because of that) if you ever rode behind a 2 smoke you know what i mean here. For trail riding you want a tame, nimble, and easy to ride machine, which the blaster is not. I had a honda recon for 5 years, my brother has had his 250ex for 3 years, and I truly believe they are the most reliable and easy to maintain quad ever built. They are not fast by any stretch of the imagination, but for trail riding it's not to often that you need a lot of power.

 

It really depends on what kind of transmission you want. The blaster is a hand clutch where the honda is an auto-clutch. Both are solid bikes but the blaster has alot more aftermarket potential. Ive ridden both and tend to like the blaster better. If you plan on buying a blaster, depending on how big of a person you are, I would look into some lower profile back tires like the Razrs or something from ITP. The blaster i rode had rear Razrs and hugged all the turns where the 250 ex had a tendancy to want to tip. Both the bikes i rode were modded with full exhaust systems. The blaster seemed more race where the 250 ex is more for fun. The major difference is your style of riding. If you like to put around sometimes i wouldent go with the blaster becasue the 2 stroke engine is made to be run wide open. Mantainance on the 250ex would be alot easier. If you decide on the blaster deffently look into the oil injector block off kit. It has a tendancy to plug up. Its better to mix the oil right into your gas. The 250ex is a solid bike right off the showroom floor where the blaster might require a few extras to make it run to its full potential.
