I am looking for some power out of a new cam, i dont really want to go into my motor to hot and heavy cause there goes my reliabilty. I have a 96 warrior and want to put a cam in it. I was curious of what kinda cam i can put in with out going into my motor. just a mild on that gives me an edge around the track cause most of the guys i race are stock for strokes w/exception of pipe and filter lil stuff like that. If I do put a cam in do i have to bore my motor out or anything? any help is appreciated.

 

I'm not certain, but I THINK that when you replace the stock camshaft with an aftermarket unit, You also have to replace the valve springs with a stronger pair. I don't think the stock springs will stand up as well to the extended lift and duration. I THINK!

 

If you put a different cam your going to loose bottom end so you will have to go with a higher compresion piston

white brothers part #1905 cam works really nice in this bike and easy to install it is worth the $125 will not loose bottom end but gain mid &upper hp,i can pull about 2 bike lengths against my friends stock warrior,no ? about it do it.also have supertrap & rejetted it.hope this makes your mind up.

 

I just installed a mild web cam in my 98 Warrior.
You do have to get stronger valve springs when replacing a cam.
My Mechanic suggested to me to get the mild cam for my quad, He said he didn't like the hot cams to much because it stresses the valves to much. They open hard and slam shut due to the lobes in the hot cam.
I also replaced my piston with a wiseco 10.5:1 compression piston. On top of that I had my head ported and polished.
What a difference. I broke it in this weekend.
At first I couldn't tell if there was any power difference. But when I was able to get on the pipe I noticed a big difference. I'm really please with the minor work I had done. I do recommend a piston with your cam. Your reliabilaty will still be there. Good luck
