Axle Bearing Replacement on a warrior
#1
Im going to replace the axle bearings on my 99 warrior and I need to know if a press or any special tools are needed? Do I just pull the wheels, hubs and axle nuts to free up the axle?

I'm going to be doing the same before too long with my Warrior. I believe you will need a floor press to get them out, but I could be wrong. When I do my replacement, I'll probably post a how to or something to that effect, I'll likely to be doing it in the middle-end of next week.

Before you remove the wheels, remove the the axle nuts, then masterlink from chain, loosen lug nuts, jack up, remove wheels and hubs. If bearings have never been changed you will have to drive the axle out of bearing housing, use a 2x4 or something to protect the axle while you hit it with a hammer. After axle is out of bearing housing, remove it then blockup with wood and drive the bearings out fron the opposite ends using a hammer and long brass drift. Put bearings in freezer for a couple of hours and housing in a 250 degree oven for about half an hour using gloves get housing from oven and bearings from freezer, If bearing will not fall in use a hammer and piece of wood or a socket about the size of the bearings outer race and drive the bearing. Then reassemble, make sure you use loctite on axle nuts.

Mine makes a noise like you'd hear from a chain, kind of a klinking noise. I determined it was the axle carrier bearings because the axle has a significant amount of slop between it and the bearing carrier, you can actually pick up one side of the axle and the other side will move about an inch or two, they need to be replaced quickly on mine. I paid 2300 for my quad, so I've been tight on cash.

thats a good idea, a buddy has a press so hopefully I wont need to do that. I dont think my roomates would like me putting the housing in our oven.

One of my friends puts Engine Blocks in the Oven regularly, a carrier is not nearly that bad

Here is one of the best links(see below) I have ever found on
servicing any part of my warrior...You have to register to view(free),
but it made this process very easy(even for a non-mechanic like myself)
It saved me quite a bit of money also, as compared to having a mechanic do it...
I did have to have my bearings pressed out, becasue the previous owner
obviously never greased these...I have replaced my bearings on both my warriors
with these instructions without a press...Regular maint. is the key..Hope this helps...

Note: for some reason the xx in blutraxx was not allowed on this site...Just put xx
in place of the 2 $$'s to make the link work...
