well guys.. i sold my Honda a few weeks ago. I loved that quad to death, very very fast. i sold it becasue i wanted to get a newer car... but after a week without a 4 wheeler to ride i was about to go crazy. so i decided not to get a newer car but to by another 4 wheeler. but this time around im going to get a yamaha YFZ! in fact im going to pick it up tomarrow. its a very slightly used 2005 model. the previous owner bought it a month ago and decided it wasnt the right machine for him. (well thats what the dealer told me anyway...) it is completly stock, everything looks perfect. the tires look like they havent seen much wear at all. so my question to you all is. after going from a 04 Honda 450 with HCR cam kit and HMF exhaust.... to a stock 05 yfz 450 what can i expect? i have never driven a YFZ before so i dont know exactly what to expect. (ill probably test drive it tomarrow before i buy it i guess) but yea.. how much different will this quad be?

Even though your R wasnt as fast as the 06s, I'm still not betting on much of a difference. With the HRC kit and the pipe you had the YFZ might even be a little bit slower! The 06 Rs and YFZs are running very close, I've never raced a pre-06 R so I cant say personally if they are THAT MUCH slower. Congrats to switching to a Yamaha though

well when i say its stock.. i mean its stock for now. it wont be for long (who drives somthing completly stock anyway?) first and formost ill get a different exhaust, then different airfilter then maybe a cam mod? donno i usually dont like to work on a engine like that after i spent all the money buying it. but im sure getting exhaust and airfilter will make a HUGE difference becasue it always does.

well after talking to the dealer i got them to include a set of tag handle bars and a GYTR exhaust system with the deal with no added cost. AWESOME! ill see how it runs then ill think about "the cam mod" will it need to be re jetted since im only getting a slip on instead of the full system? when i installed the HMF exhaust on my 450R i never had to rejet it and it ran fine.... but then again it was already rejetted becasue of the HRC kit...
but yea i cant pick it up until tomarrow I CANT WAIT!

Put the stock needle at the 5th to 6th clip position
Turn out the fuel screw to about 2 to 2 1/2 turns out.
That should get you pretty close, and you won't have to spend big $$ on jets kits that are mostly a waste of money.......

yfz hand down,if you remember there is an electric start on that quad that is totally for racing, that a pretty
good deal, there room for more then, but the geometry of the frame is so close to perfect, that the R is second place
for me,no contest, yamaha use lighter quality parts.
