Lookin for a big bore 4x4...
I'm looking right now for a 600-700 class 4x4 for the trails. I want it to be as maneuverable as possible, and not insanely huge in overall size (the polaris's are insane). I would like fuel injection, but potentially for a griz 660 i could settle for carbs. Its hard to get away from irs anymore, but I haven't read up on it enough to know whether or not i would want to anyway, my only thought being that a straight axle would have less body roll in high speed corners. I really dont want to get a 450 class machine because i do want the power, look at my pix and you'll see why. The new wave of power steering doesnt sound all that great to me, I would rather just have a steering damper, i dont need help turning the bars. So, i've kind of narrowed it down to 2 machines, and I know what most of you are going to say, but try not to be too partial to yamaha just cause this is the yami forum.
Rincon or griz. I know the rincon is a little more docile, but the only thing i really dont know about is the griz sidehill stability, since its so tall. The 660 would probably be fine cause like i said, the power steering is kinda unnecessary, and just one more thing to break. And of course it would mean buying a brand new machine that hasnt been torture tested yet, and sadly yamaha does have some history of problems with new machines. Now, i dont know why they went from the 5 valve to the 4 when the designed the 700, i assume to make it a little less peppy and more smooth. I do like the look of the new griz, but i might be able to talk down the dealer on the 660 since its an outgoing model, and everybody seemed to like it when it first came out.
As for the rincon, i like the lower seat height, mainly just because i like to have a firm, planted feel, especially in corners, and I dont know how the motors compare, either to the new or the old griz. I would assume the yamis make a little more power since they're slightly more high tech, and its just yamaha style. However, I can see how the rincon would feel like an old-man mobile, since its a little bulkier and looks like an suv.
Anyway, as unbiased as possible please, and is there any reason not to get a 660, it would be a little cheaper, and I know its a capable machine, the only thing I've heard about is overheating, but who knows what kind of quirks the new griz might have.

I know you had mentioned that you wanted a quad around 600 or 700cc but I would recommend the new can am Renegade 800 just because its a utility quad mixed with a racing quad. It also has a rotax engine which I would have to say is the best engine out there or if you just want that utility feel then go for a kawi which Ive heard was a good overall quad or one of the outlanders.

I did look at the 'zook, but theres 2 problems: 1. it feels like a tank, not horrible, but bigger than I really want it to be. 2. i've heard about a number of front differential failures, and the repair cost is pretty high.
As for bombardier/can am, I dont like the look, and I dont know anyone who has any bombardier quads, so I really dont know how they rate. From what i've heard, they're coming up, have been for the last few years. They're obviously selling a lot of machines, but the dealers are a little harder to find, and like i said, I dont know enough about them to trust them.
I do like the griz 700, it looks cool and there are some nice changes, (namely efi) so that might be a good choice. I need to read some old magazine shootouts/ tests and see what they say about the 660 and rincon. Any 660 owners that have anything to say about the terrainability? What was the hp output of the 660 and whats projected for the 700?
I'll have to wait til the new griz comes out, check it out in person, and read some reviews after they test it out, then see if there are any immediate complications, but if all goes well, I think I would probably be happy with one of those. Obviously the only other consideration is that the 660 might save me some bills, especially if I pay cash, which I might be able to do, and I doubt they'll be willing to haggle much on the brand new 700.
