I've been looking at different atv tires and been seeing that outlaws are rating at one of the best in the mud. With an unmodified 660 grizz with 27" outlaws on type 7 ITP rims would the performance in the mudd be worth the sacrfice out of it.

Does anyone know of problems with axles/cv joints breaking. My second choice is 27" mud lite XTRs on 14"s. 75% of the time in the mud and the rest of the time I'm on hardpacked.

 

If your gonna put that size tire on there I would make some mods to the engine. Cam & exhaust change for sure. I grizz will suffer bottom end with a 27 on there. May want to consider a Mudbuster cam and upgrade the exhaust to HMF. Good luck hope this helps

 

I'm running the 27" 589's and I run fine in the mud... It has plenty of power to get me thru whatever I need. (make sure to do the reverse rev-limiter override mod)

I would go with the clutch kit first... before doing any kind of engine or exhaust mods....

I have also not noticed any axle or cv joint problems (like the ones that bother the BF's) on any of the grizzly's I ride with...

what is the reverse rev-limiter override mod? What do you need to do to do this mod?

 

putting in this mod allows you to switch between full power in reverse, and power up to the stock rpm limiter....

(great for when you need the power to back out of a mud hole, or pulling someone else out. )

The instructions for the mod are here: Grizz Hopper website It's a must have for all grizzly owners...

All you need is the Y connector, some wire, and a switch. (about 10 bucks) I drilled a hole and put the switch directly below my key. If you didn't know any better, you'd think it came with the quad.

 

Have you tired or anyone you know tired other types of mud tires. If so how they compare to the 589s.

 

I have 26" swamp fox tires , they are the best tires I have had so far.

I run dirtdevil AT's... on both my 02 grizzly and my dad's 05 kodiak... They work well... They don't dig in as much as the 589's, and work better in sandy bottomed bodies of water. They also provide better down hill traction. My dad actually liked them more than the 589's... I like the 589's more in the muddy puddles... and they raise the ground clearance a lil more...

 

Hebs, do you have trouble with water getting into your intake.
