Default 660 raptor sprocket

I got an 03 le raptor a couple of weeks ago. it had low hours and is in good shape. between my friends they have an 06 dvx 400, two 450r's, 05 dvx 400, 03 z400, an 01 raptor, and an 06 400 ex. they're all basically stock. i've only raced the dvx's and z400 but they all get me thru the gears and i don't pass them till pretty much wound out in 5th and it's hard to find a lot of good spots around here for that. which sprocket would i need to change and to how many teeth or would i need to do something else. they all have the baffles out but that's it. also i went to an mx track last weekend and really want to race and that track is pretty little so it would need it for that.

ur gonna need more than a sprocket if Z400s are keeping up with you. you might want to do a compression check and maybe get a new GYTR clutch. Im assuming the 450s and the other raptor are gonna whoop your *** if the Zs are giving u a run for ur money. If your bike is stock, Im assuming the jetting is fine, just make sure the air filter is clean.

BTW, if you only want to change a sprocket, go with a 12T front sprocket.

I know this will be contradicted in a later post, but ill say it anyway. I like 14/40 gearing. It allows you to take advantage of the torque that the 660 produces. I dont have a problem at all hillclimbing or anything. This may not be the best idea if you are a very heavy person though.

My bike will out-accelerate a stock banshee that a friend of mine has no matter who is on it, from a dig, roll...etc. The only thing there is on it is 14/40 gearing a no spark arrestor in the end of the muffler.

If you run 12/40 gearing, you are hurting yourself in a drag race. Its good for trail riding but not drag racing. Think about the actual gear spacing and the way and manner that the engine produces power and you will start to figure out what I am talking about. The only thing that you might gain in a drag race with 12/40 is the launch, which can be remidied with a good rider anyway. I am sure there alot of people that dont know it but shorter gearing will sometimes hinder acceleration and not help it. It all depends on matching the gear ratios to the engines powerband.

Probably the best thing you could do is familiarize yourself with the raptor and learn how to lauch it and make quick shifts. This will help your E.T.. Your bike should be able to out-accelerate all but the 450R, you will only be able to pass it on top speed.

To deal with the 450R in a drag race, you need to have a great launch and use your skills to beat the quickness. Its all about how fast you go fast, so dont make a sandwhich on the starting line. Perfect the launch and pull him in first so he will have to play catch up and some of the advantage he has will have to be used while he is behind you. This means that you wont have to race as far to pass him back. Learn how to shift the raptor so that accelerates as fast is the equipment will let it.

Good luck and keep me updated with how you do.

I have a 14 in front and i love it! I'm gaining everywere even accelaration because the raptor as enough torque to pull high gearing easily..BTW I'm not stock...just put a full exhaust system and let her breath and I promiss u won't regret it.
