Default adjusting idle and reed question blaster

How do you raise the idle on the yamaha blasters? I just purchesed a '95 blaster for my wife and the idle is a little to low so it stalls occasionally when you stop. I tried to adjust the barrel adjuster on the throttle cable but it started running even worse, then I noticed there is a small microswitch in there that was not making contact when you let off. Also, how do you know when to replace the reeds? Could worn out reeds be causing the idle to be so low and erratic? It also sometimes falls on it's face when I give it more than about half throttle. I removed the carb and cleaned it out to make sure the floats aren't sticking, but that didn't seem to make any difference. Thanks.

There is an idle adjustment screw on the side of the carb turn it in all the way and back it out 1 1/2 turns. That is the setting for a stock blaster but you can fiddle with it to get the idle where you want it. As far as the reeds go i only replace them when the brake.

That guy above me is right. To check the reeds is easier than cleaning the carb. Just take out the 4 bolts infront of the carb and the reed cage comes right out. Replace them if they are cracked or not connected to the cage. Spray a little carb cleaner on them to get the buildup off. Also there should be a brass bracket that holds on the top of the carb with the throttle cable goes in. If that top part comes loose because theres no bracket then itll mess with ur idle. Clean and tighten everything then set your idle. That switch i believe is part of the TORS system, i cut mine out.

If you have a stock carb the Idle adjustment is located on the TORS system on top of the carb. It is the knurled **** on it. The screw on the side of the carb is the air screw. It regulates the fuel air mixture off idle. You can fiddle with that to see if the blaster runs any better. What condition is that 95 Blaster has the top end been rebuilt. You may do a compression check. If its running erratic you may have a leak.
