I am putting a CR500 Motor into my Blaster - have a few questions

Hmmm, Im not telling you not to do it.
Cuz Im sure that if its done right, the machine would be a blast to ride in the dunes ,once you upgraded the suspension.
Heres my thought though on building it for "Drag Racing".
If your racing "bracket racing", going faster can just make you more INconsistant.
If your racing "Heads up" racing, at the tracks I run at in Wisconsin and Illinois, Doing a mod like that, puts you in the open classes where you will be racing bikes with turbo charged 1000cc motors and 1300cc triple cyl 2 stroke snomo quads. I guess I just dont see the point of such a small engine for drag racing.
Like I said, Im sure it would make a nice little duner, but a drag racer............. hmmmmmm , im not so sure about that one.

I dont think the Blaster frame can support the hp of an open class 500 motor without flexing and breaking. It's alright for the ancient IT200 engine, but an open classer,,,? Hope your welding skills are up to date.

Great points on why not to do the conversion!

I say cram that 500 in there, throw up some reinforcement rods on the frame. Get a swimgarm for the beast and some extended a-arms. You may need to upgrade your clutch too. Then watch your friends that used to laugh choke on grass

I raced a 90 yz 490 and it was pretty much the same as the 85. It didn't have a hard hit in the powerband and it wasn't really that much slower than the cr's and kx's. I got some holeshots against them and all I had was a pipe. It did ping and I've got carpal tunnel now! I actually had a friend pry my fingers off the grips after 1 race!lol! I don't know how much wide open racing the motor will handle as I rode it like a 4-stroke and had no problems. I kept the oil changed and the air filter clean. The guy I sold it too blew it up in 1 month.

You might try looking up trizinNY, he is just finishing up a TriZ/YZ490 drag trike. He might have some ideas if you go that way. In any case, buy a long swingarm and keep your life insurance up to date
