One advantage of the yamaha ultramatic trannys..they can be bump started in these situations..if you have a tow strap and another vehicle to pull it. Just put it in high, key on, and have someone pull it. If the back tires just want to slide, instead of rolling, put it in 4wd. No need to go over 10mph, it should start within a few seconds.
Pulling the rope aint fun, but if you slowly pull on the rope, until you feel the compression stroke...stop pulling, let the rope retract(so you can get a full pull), then slowly pull the rope til you feel it engage..then give it a good pull.

To pull start the grizzly, pull up slowly until the rope becomes easy to pull. You will then be past the compression stroke, let the rope back down as far as it will go and give it a yank, it will pull easy now and start right up.

What the last guy said was right but I slowly pull up past that first compression stroke which is usually about 10 inches. I don't let the rope back down but pull hard from there and it starts easily.
