Default 1996 Blaster?

Ive found a 1996 Yamaha Blaster for sale, the guy is asking 600 and he said he rebuilt the top end with weisco (sp) piston and gaskets. He got it to fire right up but wouldnt hit powerband and it boughed out and died within 2 minutes of riding on a new tank of premo and yamalube. He says he thinks it needs carb work but would that be the problem? I havent had the chance to look at it as it is not local. Would this be a deal to go after? Just looking for some feedback whether its worth it or not, and if the carb would be the problem.

It could be the carb. What condition is the rest of the quad in. Are the shocks good, body, bushing tight, etc. I bought a 91 Blaster with a blown motor for $400 and rebuild low end, had cylinder bored milled head, cylinder ported, new carb, etc. Still have only $1200 in it. I guess it depends on your budget.

Sounds good, get a compression tester and check the compression. If thats good then its worth it.

Here are some pics of the quad. Im new to this tell me what you think from what i can see it appears to be in good shape. Im not sure why the front fenders arent on it in some of the pics though but from what i know they are attached as of now. i could not tell you about the shocks or bushing as i have not seen it in person. Let me know what you think.

Some people trim or remove front fenders for looks, save weight, or less wind resistance. Looks like it's in descent shape. Got's aftermarket tires. Some kind of aftermarket silencer. Although that silencer looks like they took off endcap. With the jerry rigging on that silencer they may not have it jetted properly. Which could cause it to seize. Are you going to go look at it. I would do as JLsparky7 said and take a compression tester and check compression. Also while you have spark plug out if it's white above electrode it's running lean and maybe seized up hince why it won't run. If everything checks out okay $600 seems reasonable, but offer him $400 since you will have to do some work. If you get it let us know if you need any help with it. Here my Project Blaster. Oh yeah are they premixing the gas or using stock oil injection?
