So you've ridden an old Raptor. Yeah, I'd go with the YFZ too. Try out the new ones, They've made some minor changes.

It's a fairly common problem. Just ride faster.

i had the '06 raptor and 5 months later traded that in for the '07 bill ballance edition yfz450. i would deff take the yfz450 over the rappy anyday!! u need to spend a lot of money to get a rappy ready for mx. where is the yfz is already there out of the box. arent rappy's SOHC? the new ones might not be. the 450's are DOHC. more power. the raptor is good for trails and dunes, not MX. unless u have the money to dump into it. then fine go for it.i liked the raptor but i wanna race so i switched. couldnt afford to put thousands into the raptor.

Well I don't have a yfz or yamaha but to keep my ds engine cooler I got engine ice from rocky mountain atv and does yamaha jet the yfz's lean from the factory if so that could be another porb of why it is hot and could cool it down a little...or it could just be because its the exhaust and its so close to your leg.

Well thats what I ride, trails and dunes. Plus, there is no stock quad that is awesome on the track. If that was the case pros could buy a stock YFZ and win races, but I'm pretty sure they dump an extra $10,000 plus into their machines. It doesn't matter what quad you buy for the track, you still need extended A arms, longer axle, lowering kit, Triple rate or quad rate shocks, etc.... If you do that stuff to a Raptor I think you're going to be very competetive. unless your in a 450 class, then you'll have some issues.

true, very true soccermike. i'm just sayin that out of most of the quads, nearly all of them stock, the yfz450 comes the closest to being race ready. i mean its not ready to go and compete with the pros or anything but u know. forr that yes u need lots and lots of money! haha

Yeah. I know its a great quad. For my riding I love the Raptor. I just hate that someone other than Yamaha got sport quad of the year. Keep in the family as all the hillbillies would say
