I'm going to go ahead and get the base model 700R and get the GYTR skid plate/nerf bars/a-arm plates.
JIGA if you go ahead as you have planned let me give you a little advice. Line your skid plate up on the bottom of your Quad and drill a large hole in the skid plate to drain you Oil Tank. The GYT-R Skid Plate Oil Tank drain hole is not in the right place. I contacted Yamaha last month when I went to drain my Oil and they gave me a credit for the purchase because I was the first to point it out to them. What I was told is that Yamaha?s official reply is that the skid plate should be removed at each Oil Change. Basically they are not admitting that the Quality Control Department screwed up when they designed the Skid Plate. See where the Big round hole is right behind the two bolts? Skid Plate Well it should be on the other side of the two bolts so you can drain your Oil tank. The hole they have pictured goes to nothing on a 700R. Later tonight I will post some pictures of how I did my skid plate. Check back in this Form later tonight.

Theres no replacement, for displacement.

SJ, thanks for the tip on the skid plate. I might go aftermarket with it instead.

Also, please explain in further detail when you quoted 450kid and then your reply with the 450/700r specs. I'm an engine dummy but a computer geek

Thanks

JIGA The reason why I said that to 450kid is because he didn't read that you are not in to racing. Also that he would go for the 450 rather then the 700 I would guess because he raced and beat a 700 racing on the road. Then in his signature he has, "There?s no replacement, for displacement." This doesn't make any sense. He believes in big motors but is telling you to buy a Quad with a smaller motor. A smaller motor that burns hotter burns out quicker. The 700R is a great Quad. Not just because I have one but because I am like you. I am never going to race but I like to haul a$$ at times and jump a little. I hope I didn?t scare you away from the GYT-R Skid Plate. It is really nice. I am going to post the pictures now so you can see what I am talking about. GYT-R Modification I didn't have time to Photo Shop in some arrows but you can see what I am talking about. The very last picture you can see straight through to the Oil Tank drain plug.

I like the 700, a lot. You can ride those things a long time due to the cushy seat and suspension. I prefer the handling and weight of the 450 much more, but the thing will beat the heck out of you on rougher trails. Unless you start hanging out at the track quite a bit the 700 is probably better suited to you. I would take the LE just for the better shocks personally.

Thanks for the pics SJ. Looks easy enough to drill a hole or they might have the problem resolved by now, not sure. Going to call around local Yamaha dealers and make sure they have the color I want.

As far as 700 or 450, I just like to hall *** trail ride, so it sounds like the 700 will do me fine. My Banshee was good for it, but had to play with the clutch a lot when on slower trails.

My not saying go buy a 450 , he said he already has one. the displacement thing is that im a fan of 4-stroke motors. and the 450 has an amazing suspension that can softened for trails or hardened for dirt. you just have to play with it a little bit. ment no disrespect to the 700R, i had a choice between that and the 450 and got 450 because it was the first year of this 700r and i dont buy a buy bike its first year out ill wait til the next year or two so company can work out bugs and defects
