Spent a half hour in the yard today. It's SO different, that I'm not sure its a yamaha. I've owned a Warrior, a Raptor and this YFZ. Also 4 Polarisii bit not a Predator/Outlaw. Heres the quick impression of the YFZ compared to my Raptor:
Lots more vibration
Stiffer handling
Makes power at high rpms, raptor at low rpms
Very responsive to my 160 lbs
Stalls really easy
With the Rap, I could wheelie from a dead stop and keep it there at a steady 3-4 mph. With the YFZ I cant get the front end up till I'm at 20ish mph.
Am I crazy on my 1st impressions? Any tips or tricks to getting the most outta this critter on trails?
I get to spend the day in a 20 acre gravel pit with some trails on friday. What should I practice?

keep working you'll get used to it, by the way, i've sold 3 of the white 450 white SE's in the last few weeks so, your not the only one, too bad for you. The yfz is alot more high strung than the rappy, just ride it, if you've rode raptors and etc before it shouldn't take too long. and if its stalling easy,(which it does) but check and adjust your clutch if necessary.

Yeah you're definitely not the only one...cause I had mine back in August!
For trails, I'd definitely soften up the suspension. I backed off the spring preload a few turns, also softened up the rebound and high/low compression by a few clicks. I think they each have 20 clicks total, stock is right in the middle at 10. I backed em off by 3 I think. Made a huge difference in the trails. Also if you soften up the rear a little you'll be able to wheelie alot easier.
As for the stalling, it took me a little while to get used to the clutch as compared to my rappy. You just gotta give it more gas, it bogs down pretty easy. I also backed out the fuel screw a little bit cause it seemed to run slightly lean stock

I've gotten some more seat time now. I've done the intake, pipe, jets, nerfs and stabilizer.
I softened every shock setting as soft as possible. Nice change but still stiff. Feels great when landing a jump. I did turn the low speed damping about 1/2 way to reduce body roll on the track.
The biggest change was taking off the original Pro Taper fat bars and replacing them with Pro Taper fat Raptor bend bars. These are about 2" taller. Major change! I'm only about 160 lbs and this allowed me to get my weight back better to lighten the front end. Helped with balance in the air too.
I've gotten alot better at not stalling this thing once its warmed up. Still cant wheely at slow speeds though. I may either drop a tooth on the front sprocket or change to 18" holeshots in back. Are the 18" tires as noticable as dropping a tooth?
