I live in Northern Minnesota and am thinking about buying a Kodiak in Canada. I am wondering if anyone has bought a quad in Canada and what kind of taxes or duties you have to pay when you bring the quad back into the states? Also any of you canadian members can you tell me what you payed for your 2001 Kodiak 4x4's? Any help would be appreciates.

My friend bought a Blue 2000 Kodiak with winch last spring for $8400 Canadain, out the door. That is about $4200 in U.S funds maybe even less.Im from a border town and I think you can bring a bike back duty free,(free trade rule) but cheak first.

I'm going up to Canada and picking up my Raptor. I bought a snowmobile from Canada and because it was a Ski-Doo and it was made in Canada it was duty free. If it isn't made in Canada your gonna have to pay duty tax. They told me it depends on the size of the engine, style and the serial number to determine how much Duty Tax your gonna pay. He told me to figure 10% of the total cost and that would be very high. I put some money down on my Raptor so I'm paying $5000 for it so I'm figuring that I'll have to pay a little over $200. If is Honda, Yamaha or Suzuki or anything not manufactured in the US or Canada then your gonna have to pay Duty Tax. If your dealer makes you pay GST tax you will get it back at the border. If it's under $500 then you will get cash. if it's over $500 they will send you a check in the mail. Hope this helps.

If thats how it works the GST you get back is 7% of the price of the bike.
I have my bike in the back of the truck for weeks sometimes. I go over the border to get gas alot and nobody asks about the bike in the back of the truck at Canadian or U.S border. If you buy bike in Canada just take it for a muddy ride before you go back to the border and just say you were visiting you gramma and ride on it.

Watch the way you throw the exchange rate around guys. $8400.00 is not $4200.00 it is $5600.00. You don't just divide by 2. You take what the cost is in Canadian and divide by 1.5, that will give you an approx value in US Funds. To go from US to Canadian multiply the US value by 1.5. This is a simplistic way of doing things as there is usually a slight variation in exchange rates depending which way you go. Long and the short is multiply of divide by 1.5. For example, I paid $9000.00 for my Raptor in Canadian funds. If you come up and but it it will come to $9000 divided by 1.5 equals $6000.00 US.
