How fast will both of these quads go? Is there really that much of a difference? I thought they quit making the Kodiak 450.

The BB is an awesome machine. Bulletproof. Mine shifts very smooth, but my bro's shifts a little clunky. I think it's cause he broke it in like a sissy.
Yamaha really hit the nail on the head with the updates needed on this model, except, the didn't address the top speed issue. I can easily keep up (or ahead) all day with my big bore ridin buddies and not notice the CC/gearing deficit until the usual open road run back to the trailer.
If they had made it a 500cc 6-speed, I would have already bought 2!

If she had a low range It may sway my decison towards one. But because it doesn't I will stay with my 450 kodiak.
The new 07 big bear has the lowest 1st gear you will find on any 400 to 500 this has been said in many atv mags plus my unk has a 2001 and 2007 bears the 07 is slow but its a monster in low range it has more pull than a 450 kodiak or grizz just because yamaha says the 450 will pull more means nothing look at the specs of the bruin/grizz 350 it says it will pull more than the bigbear i have a bruin NO WAY WILL IT EVER OUT PULL IT...

1st-3rd gear on the bigbear are all extremely low..its nice when your in real rough terrain or pulling heavy loads..theres a big gap to 4th and 5th...but the engine usually doesnt have a problem making the jump on trails

P.S
"Yamaha only makes 3 quads now...Grizzlies(125,350,450,660,700), Raptors(85,350,700), and the BigBear "

does anyone else think this is getting a little out of hand? lol

I think some people are forgetting about yamaha making the wolvering and YFZ450....also i haven't had the chance to ride an 07 big bear yet, but did own a 2005, kinda curious on how low the 1st gear REALLY is. My 07 eiger when put in 1st low is geared lower than my 05 BB 1st was, any lower and ur almost not even moving.

I have lots of seat time on the 07 bigbear 400 and never use first you can move more than 3 foot before you have to shift but 1st would be great to use in combo with some big aggressive tire's!!

I guess I will have to tell my kodiak 450 that it cannot pull moose out of the bush. (3 to count since 03') Because apparently, the big bear 400 has a low gear which is the lowest ever according to you. Get real. Both will do what I ask of them.. Or the trikes I have used to pull moose out of the bush.

Try testing the low gear in the 400 against the older big bear 350 in low range. I doubt you will see much difference and realize that everything you read MUST BE RIGHT BECAUSE ITS IN A MAGAZINE!!!

Give your head a shake. Im not trashing the BB-400. I just done see much of an advantage to rushing out and buying a big bear 400, when my 03 Kodiak does the job just fine.

Also, brush up on your punctuation. I had to read your post 3 times to figure out what you are saying.

I am new here! I see that you have a bear tracker, How is that treating you? Have you done anything to it?
