Oil and filter
You could probably spend a few hour reading the articles at this site.
calsci
They di sect filters and examine oil, and have alot of good information.
Short answer, if you paid 20 for both the oil and filter...you didnt do too bad. The supertech filter at wallys world is alot cheaper, and is rated higher, than the kn.

Wow, i wish I could get my oil and filter for that cheap. The filters for my warrior are 10 bucks apiece no matter where I get them, and all the local amosil dealers sell synthetic for 10-12 bucks a quart. My warrior takes 3 quarts, so the costs really add up. If it wasn't for the price of synthetic I would be running it, but 6 dollars vs over 30 is hard to justify on a motor with 20 year old technology.

Recon,
So what does it cost you to drive to the trailhead, ride one day, drive home? It costs me about $18., or so, depending. You only have to change oil every some months. Skip one day of riding when the weather is crappy anyway, and save most of the cost of the oil change. What's your bike worth? $5,000?

It's not that I can't afford it, or that I don't like spending money on the quad ($8,500 invested already), I just never saw any proof that synthetic actually has any benefit on such a basic engine, to actually make it worth the extra money spent. I know this thing was abused badly and poorly maintained before I bought it, so even the cheap valvoline atv oil i'm running in it is better than the 88 cent walmart automotive oil that was probably used in it, if the oil was even changed in the poor thing during the first 4 years of it's life. If you've seen any decent articles about standard oil vs synthetic in a small engine, point me that way, because i'd be interested in reading up on it a bit more.
