Default 2cycle mix in my 2006 Kodiak......HELP!!!

Hey guys as you can tell from the title I've got a problem. My dad filled up my 4wheeler gas can with 2cycle oil mix for his weed eater and neglected to tell me. I put about 1 gallon of mixed gas and about 3 gallons of regular 87 octane gas. I left for the trails and didn't find out until he called me in the middle of riding. Anyways to make a long story short......I drove my quad for about 3 hours with the mixed gas. It would ride fine for about 30 min, then skip sputter and puff blue smoke for about 10 min, then ride fine for another 30 min. I finally came home and drained the gas tank but it still didn't get quite all of it out. I filled it up again with 93 octane gas and put a little carb cleaner in with it. It still runs like crap sometimes but not quite as bad as it was yesterday. Anything else you guys would suggest??

What was the ratio of the mix? it sounds like it was probably pretty high since it seems your carb is all gunked up.

You probably just need a good carb cleaning. Might want to check your plug also.

You didn't hurt anything, but if it the mix ratio was high there is probably jsut a lot of crap in your tank.

Change the plug and go riding. Don't hold back, ride it hard.

What i'm guessing is that there was most likely something else other than just gas and 2 stroke mix in there. Condesnsation, dirt, mud, etc could have easily built up inside that can, and ended up making it into your carb. I'd give it a try and open up the drain screw on the bottom of the carb, and with any luck you can get the crap out that way. If not, you'll have to take the carb off and remove the float bowl to clean it out.

Back in my younger days, when there was no more straight gas left for me to use, I would run the recon on 50:1 premix since it was always the only thing left in the shed, and never had a problem with it at all. (except dad getting po'd because he had to mix another can of it every time he wanted to use a chansaw or weed eater)

OK I changed the plug, drained the gas, and the carb, and filled it up with 93 octane and a little fuel system cleaner. The plug that I took out actually looked pretty good. When I drained the gas tank it still left maybe an inch of the mixed gas that wouldn't drain out. I took it out for a few hours today and it ran fine for the most part but about every 45 min to an hour it would skip, sputter, choke down, blow smoke, etc... I'm guessing that it will probably take 2-3 more full tanks for it to dilute it enough to burn the oil.

P.S. I did buy another gas can with ATV GAS in huge letters on it!!!

While I wouldn't make a habit out of doing that, your quad should be fine. Over time the rest of the 2 stroke oil will get burned off. I could see some condensation or contaminants in that pre mix if it was mixed a while ago being more of a problem than the actual oil. 2 stroke oil shouldn't be gumming up your carb.

this probably is'nt your problem but you might try anyways. Two stroke oil will clog up paper gas filters so if you have a filter you might change it.I figure it probably wouldnt run at all if this is your problem but it's a suggestion.
