The kodiak the same machine however it is in a differant class.....think about it!

Kodiak 450 not even really 450cc's and weighs the same(within a few pounds) of the 660 griz

I knew I would not be happy with a 400cc or less.....I would like a grizz, but being my first quad the kodiak 450 fits.

A Kodiak is a slightly shrunken version of the Grizzly 660 or 700. It's overall dimensions are a little smaller which may be a good thing for medium to smaller people.

As for whether to go Brute Force 750 or Grizzly 700, it all comes down to personal preference. However if I had to do it all over again my choice would be the same, I'd go with the Grizzly 700. The Brute Force has a more powerful engine, there is no doubt about that. The V-twin sounds "better" too (again, that's a personal preference thing). Also, in comparing the Brute Force 750 that I sold and the Grizzly 700 I have now, the Brute has better high speed (above 50 mph) handling characteristics. My Grizzly feels a little squirmy at high speed while the Brute was rock steady. My Brute handled high speed trails better too (less body roll), however that was only after my $1800 Elka shock upgrade. Also, in some cases the lever pull locker is more convenient to use than the Grizzly push button locker. This is where the Brute advantage ends though.

As a general purpose trail rider the Grizzly 700 is a better overall package. It has a more comfortable ride, it's quieter, it is much easier to steer and handle in rough terrain (below 50 mph which accounts for 99.98% of my riding), you sit lower, it has a better engine braking system, it has 4 wheel disc brakes, the drive belt system will last longer and require less maintenance, it has a better 4WD system (instant-on push-button in forward or reverse), it has more ground clearance, it has more suspension travel, it is fuel injected, it holds more fuel, it's electrical connecters are better protected from the elements and it has a softer seat.

BTW the 700 Grizzly is a major improvement over the 660 (I've had a 660 since July of '01). If choosing between the Brute and the 660 based upon my experiences, I'd probably choose the Brute (because of the power advantage and its stiff steering allows it to handle rough trails with less bump steer better than the 660)...

You are right, the Grizzly is lots faster than the Kodiak. The dealer was just trying to sell you their more difficult to sell ATV, as it is common knowledge that Yamaha sells more Grizzlys than Kodiaks. That is why they changed the Kodiak 450s name to Grizzly 450, to take advantage of some of the Grizzlys popularity.

Actually the Sportsman 800 is a pretty good trail handler as well with plenty of zip. But it is about 150 pounds heavier than the Brute or Grizzly and what bothers me more is the one lever braking system. That turns me off of Can-Am and Arctic Cat as well. That is just my personal preference, I like the option of individually controlling the front / back brakes. I also prefer fully manual 4WD operation (like what the Grizz / Brute have)...
