I think you got some facts crossed somplace Juvenile, i saw that the mags were saying " the engine yamaha plans on using is out of the 660 dirtbike and that motor makes 50plus HP so we expect the raptor to have 46-48" !!! no thats at the crank not the wheels!! i do beleave the LT500 was tested at the rear wheels at 41HP and advertised at 51 crank, now ive seen numbers for the raptor at 36-38 at the wheels so i would geuss at the crank that would be 46-48 like they guesstmated!!
As for down tuning the bike how many MORE people do you suspose would be tring to outlaw and put a ban on these things if they did 85-90 MPH and any 16 year old out there could get one!!
This is'nt a slam or flame against you just my thought and interpitation of what i read!!!

2STROKEDIEHARD,

Can you give us a comparison between your two quads and what if any mods are responsible?

Thanks!

ChrisDS650,

Why are you questioning the speed that my DS did on the Dyno?? I mean you own a DS so to me, if it where someone elses DS that dyno'd like mine with the top speed of 95 MPH ,I would be like "Cool man these are bad bikes that can be maid to get up and go!" But it seems like your jealous or something? Why ? You own one of these awesome machines! I'll have the copy of my dyno results online pretty soon to prove it to you.And I also know that if I was on hard packed dirt or pavement I could get her wound up to 10000 RPM to achive the 95 MPH it dyno'd at.

2StrokeDiehardfan; In Sept. 99 of 4WheelATVAction(pg.44)they conducted an interview with Bomb. reps. about the DS650 with dyno numbers estimated to be upwards of 55hp. Now, July 00 ATVAction had an interview with Terry Beal of Yamaha. Beal says; that it kills it for overall power, meaning Raptor(45hp est) vs DS650(55hp est). Beal also mentions that; Look at it this way-the difference between the Raptor(45hp) and DS650(55hp) is comparable to the difference between the DS (55hp est.) and the 400ex(35hp est). That's for top speed and in drag races of 100 and 200 yards. ATV Action responds with; Whoa! That would put the top speed of the Raptor in the low 80s! I'm no Rocket-Scientist but from reading these articles I was lead to believe that the Raptor vs DS650 would be like the DS650 vs 400ex and that's not the case in stock form. I don't regret buying a Raptor in anyway, but some things were over-hyped. Just keeping it real.
