I have a 2007 Grizz 660 and love it. The 700 is a fantastic bike, but I chose the time proven reliability record of the 660. I never buy a first model year of anything, that's just my rule of thumb. The 660 has all the power I need and after adding wheels and tires it only became better in the overall performance department. It has never let my down, and has never failed to surprise my when the going gets tough.

It looks like Yamaha got it right with the 700 but you can't go wrong with a 660 either. Plus the scores of aftermarket goodies for the 660 is a big plus. The 700 is the new super-ute on the market, and many dealers are not budging off MSRP by much if at all. Now would be the time to negotiate a super deal on the 660 still in stock and run.

Well yesterday I headed down to my local dealer to check out a couple machines firsthand. They had the 660, 700, and rincon (among other things of course). I honestly didnt like the seating position of the 700. The seat is WAYYY too soft for my tastes. The ones with fender flares look a little weird to me. Also, since the fuel tank is now under-seat, it seems to have raised the seat height a tad, which makes you feel like you're ON it. With the 660, you sit a little lower in the frame of it and feel more "in" it. The seat is nice on the 660, and I liked the overall looks and size a bit better. The rincon was honestly quite disappointing. I expected I'd have to convince myself to get the 660, even though the Rin might be a better machine in some aspects (better handling, EFI, etc.). Not the case at all. I dont like the plastics very much, just in the detail work. The pegs are raised which is nice, but they made the whole running board area very short front to back, and the raised pegs limit your available footing positions. Also, they were placed a bit far back on the boards, forcing me to sit in a more relaxed riding position than I wanted. Then the controls just seemed a little off. I didnt like the oversimplified "F/N/R" lever sticking up next to the steering stem. Basically I just wasnt impressed. So with the firsthand experience to back up my previous ideas, I think it's gonna be the 660. Great machine, looks good, feels good, doesnt have any unnecessary gadgets, proven track record, what more could I want? Oh yeah, saves me $1k too. Great choice! If the Grizz 660 still didn't have something to offer, Yamaha would drop it from the model line. Now you just need to get it home and start picking out all the goodies you are going to put on it. Oh yeah, ride the heck out of it too....that's the best part.
