Default oil leak + other stuff on banshee......

ok.. i just bought an 87 yamaha banshee. Now from what i was told, the engine was JUST rebuilt. It hadnt even finished being broken in yet. Now the thng is..... i took it riding for the first time and lemme telll ya, its a blast. But after 10 minutes of riding i noticed that for some reason, i lost most of my powerband, in it was having a hard time just accelrating... ( lemme put it this way on how i was running.... i only won by a few feet in a race against a noob rider on a 200cc blaster.... -_- i was in 6th gear and he was in 4th and.... well it was his first day on a quad -_- and well.. that did sorta maybe.. REALLY **** ME OFF. =) I also noticed that there was only smoke, ( blue and strong) coming out of the left pipe... but not the right which i came to the conclusion that the right cyliner wasnt working... ( he has it really rich and it was sitting for a while) so i figured.. hey, bad spark plug no big deal.. so now i bought the new spark plug and i just need to know, whats the spark plug gap for these things? XD long story for a short problem eh? But then i also noticed.... that the back end of the quad was SOAKED and i mean SOAKED in gear oil. I mean EVERYTHING! the swing arm, my tires, my exaust pipes, my rear end of the engine, the cchian, my brand new brake pads i put on were soaked... EVERYTHING. Almost like as if... it were literally spraying it out of the engine So i take off the dipstick to check the oil and... THERES NO FREAKING OIL IN IT O.O And I just changed it..... so now where would it be leaking from? but then i noticed that even sitting still it leaked the day before but we thought it was the drain plug.. but now obviously we now it wasnt... but now that we brought it back from the first days riding... it doesnt appear to be leaking oil anymore! (i refilled it) .... so now its holding the oil? GAH so is there some way they messed up putting the seal in and now somehow it vibrated into place? should i go through the trouble of taking my engine apart to see if theres a bad seal? cause i mean.. just rebuilt.. that does mean new seals doesnt it? cause he said he spent 2 grand rebuilding it... (weico pistons) =) also it seemed.... ( in the first 10 min when both cylinders were running) that the smoke was VERY thick. ( keep in mind he had it rich and we just added gas to it so it was still really rich) Also if it helps the day before there was only thick smoke coming out of the RIGHT exaust and none out the left... it was also sort of spitting oil out... but not anymore...( not spitting or smoking anything out now =( what to do what to do what to do?

ps if it helps, it is running on non snythetic, we were gonna switch it over today but we realized.. hey... only one cylinder... one on non synthetic and one on synthetic? O.O bad bad bad bad bad... so we decided to wait and just run it on non until we got the kinks fixed.....

so...

what could the problems be?

what is the spark plug gap?

where could the oil be coming from?

blue smoke.... caused by richness, crankcase oil, being new engine or a combo of all 3?

P.S.S. edit- also forgot that.. the carb doesnt leak or nothing... it works great... but for some reason.. my choke wont stay out =( i have to hold it out. it kinda sucks cause its difficult to start without it but as soon as u hold it out it starts on the first kick. Anything i should do to fix the chokw or is there a specific part er what? Thx and if u could tell me the exact part thatd be helpful.. thx

anything else i missed thx ( sorry fer all teh LOOOOOONG writin) XP

also it ran like a champ with an insane powerband and awsome speed and no other problems until of course.. 10 minutes l8r... well u know =)
Thx again... Chris

Default oil leak + other stuff on banshee......

Tighten your clutch and stator covers
Make sure the threads arnt stripped on the oil plug
Make sure you have gaskets on the covers
Plug gap is .030 or .7-.8mm
You should not of been racing if the motor was just rebuilt
I dont think your choke tube connecting the 2 carbs is pushed on right, that would explain some of the oil leak. There is a tube going between the 2 carbs straight back from the choke ****.

Sounds like you might have a leaking crankshaft seal. You need to so a crankcase pressure test. You will need to buy or barrow a two stroke pressure test kit. You can get them at any auto parts store or ebay.
