Blaster 240+
#1
Ok this one is long so grab some popcorn!
About 3.5yrs ago I sent the head and cylinder of my 98 Blaster engine to Trinity Racing in CA.
I got the stage III racing Port and Polish, the head mod, and the 240 Big Bore kit.
They sent everything back with three jets, gaskets, new Wiseco Piston, wrist pin, clips, rings etc..
I also have the FMF full Power core II pipe kit with a Rad Valve and carbon fiber reeds.
I installed everything as it should be fire it up and it sounds ok then 10 minutes later piston
slap begins. I've worked on engines since I was 14 and had the pleasure of never hearing this
but when it happens...you know what it is. I pull it apart and sure enough piston and sleeve
have seen better days. I call Trinity my Dad and I measure the bore and piston and they don't match.
I end up paying half trinity pays half and they re-sleeve my block and give me a new piston and accesories.
I put the piston, rings, cylinder, and head back on last year but never got around to finishing it (jetting
and carb assembly). I'm trying to sell it and I want to make sure it's in perfect running condition.
Here's my questions:
1.) Do I now need to disassemble it to re lube the cylinder for break in?
2.) How do I conduct a proper leak down test on this little engine?
3.) Are there other 240 blasters running stock carbs with big jets?
4.) Any special tricks to 2 stroke break in and jetting when starting a freshly rebuilt engine?
5.) Is 32:1 still a good mixture for this bike?
