Terracross Vs. Big Horn
#1
I'm looking for new tires for my Grizzly. I like both the Terracross and I like the Maxxis Big Horn. Does anyone have these and how are they. I mainly ride trails, creeks, and some mud, some hills, Thanks for your help

I have about 30 miles on a new set of ITP terracross'. I picked them over the big horns for a couple of reasons. First, the weight was a factor since they were going on a 500cc suzuki vinson. Although the fronts aren't too far apart in weight, the rear 25" bighorns are about 5 pounds heavier each than the terracross'. Second, I bought the fronts for $63 and the rears for $69. This was about a $70 savings over the bighorns.
I haven't noticed any wear yet on the tires, and the smooth ride and planted feel make me glad I got the ITP tire.

I've never used the tera cross but I have a lot of experience with the bighorns. I had them on my Rokon Trailbreaker. I used the 25X8X12 front and rear. They created such a fantastic level of performance over the factory tires, it was like a completely different machine. The beating they took over roughly 2000 miles of use on the sharp miserable rocky terrain of the pacific northwests cascade mountians was a never ending source of amazment to me. How they could withstand that kind of punishment day in and day out and never once lose air or get a flat.
I was so impressed with these tires I have also just ordered them for my brand new Grizzly 450. I chose to go with the 25X8X12 front and the 25X10X12 rear becuase they are so much bigger then the size marked. It's not easy to compare them in weight to other tires, because they are actually so much bigger then marked. The 25" bighorns are actually 26" tall, where many 26" tires are only 25.5" tall or even less. The 25" bighorns dwarf the factory Maxxis tires on my Griz when I put the Rokon next to the Grizz side by side even though they are maked the same.
I have no bone to pick with any tire or brand, I'm sure the Teracross are great tires, but the Bighorns are simply the best tire I've ever used in my life by a large margin over anything else Ive seen or used. I'll post up a few photo's of the New setup when I get back to my ranch next weekend.

I have run ITP tires for the last 3 years (ITP holeshot ATR) I like the tread pattern but had leaks that cut short my trips multiple times. ITP makes the tires light but give up durability. I have another friend (we both have 03 grizzlys) that ran the ITP Mud Lite ATR. He loved the traction but has also had problems with leaks.
When I was looking for tires I was torn between the bighorns and the ITP Holeshots. I wish I would have bought the Bighorns then. I recently bought the Bighorns for the back of the Grizz and love them. They grab like nothing I have riden. They ride the trails well and have a minimum of vibration. It is an aggresive tread but still rides smooth. I lost about 2 miles per hour top end but that is not a big deal to me.
I will be buying the fronts this week.

I am running the Terracross on my 500 cat and so far no complaints. I ride all winter and they have done great in the snow as well as mud, hill climbing and general trail riding. Let me add that some of the trails were extremely rocky. They will load up in the clay but a short burst of the throttle clears them nicely. My group pretty much covers the spectrum on tires and everyone has their favorite. With the Cat being a heavy machine I was impressed with the improvement in handling and steering. The deepest mud was a long trough of broken ice slush and mud about halfway to my seat and the terracross had no problems going through it. I may try something different down the road when these wear out, but so far they have shown no sign of wear. Good luck with your decision.
