I've seen several post where some people change the front (12 or 11 tooth) and some change the rear sprockets on their Raptors. I would like to change one of the two to bring 2nd gear a little lower and wondered what's the pros and cons of front vs. rear and what would y'all recommend?

You might like to take a look at my post from a couple of weeks ago about 11 and 12 tooth sprockets. i am still running the 11 and love it. It breaks the tires loose easier and loose some top end but is great for trails and climbing.

I too run an 11 up front and it is nice, helps alot when riding tight trails can use 2nd and 3rd gear. It is always better to go bigger in the rear when you get down past a 13countershaft sprocket but on the raptor you cannot go to big in the rear unless you shim your skid plate down and then you'll loose clearance. The smaller fronts dont last as long but its worth the performance gain if you ride in the woods alot.

Raptorrider2001,

If I remember correctly, aren't you the one that said you have to change the 11 tooth every month or so? That seem's like a big pain! Is there enough difference between the 11 and 12 to justify all the extra work?

Bartolo, My 11 only lasted me around 1.5 months which to me is no big deal there cheap and easy to change only takes 10minutes. It would of lasted longet but I change them when theres alittle wear any pointing or bending. Thats 1.5 months of hard riding and not taking it easy which it would last alot longer, the 12 will last longer than the 11 and the 13 will last longer than the 12 and so on the bigger you go the longer wear you'll get out of them do to less revolutions/turns and less chan contact.
