Well,,,I first owned dirt bikes then street then ATV's thats the order I've gone. My street bike accident was the worst of them all. I road the street a little longer then went to ATV's. The sand ridding can't be beat!!! Mud, snow, trails!! I would get an ATV, I've owned all and ATV's are the most fun. Just my 2 cents.

Dang, and I thought I was the only one thinking about selling the streetbike. I have a 2000 red and gray Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa. I love the bike but I dont want to leave my kids without a father. I never thought about it till now...guess I am getting old. I bought my first atv..a raptor. I havent had much time to ride but I have to say it feels slow as hell to me but I kinda expected that. I had dirt bikes in the past and damn they are pretty dangerous too. It seems the atv should be SOME safer but I know you can get hurt on them too. I'm just glad I'm not in the boat alone.

I have owned ATVs,trail bikes,and road bikes.If someone were to tell me I HAD to make a choice,I would,without question,keep my ATV.

I enjoyed the bikes, however,my love for ATVing far surpasses that of biking. My wife was sorta buggin me to get my rode bike back on the road though.Maybe next yr?I doubt it,all my extra time goes to the ATVs,
Bill

His name is Sean Fitzgerald and he teaches mathematics at one of your local schools.
One of the reasons my wife wants me to sell the R6 is the crash I had at a racetrack in SC (small description in my "Gear recommendations??" post).
But I know I can still get hurt on the Raptor.
We can help it though, this is in our blood. Gotta have power between our legs, something that makes a sweet sound, has handle bars to hang on to and we can scare ourselves on from time to time. I do miss the R1 but my wife knows how I like to ride and she would rather have me in the dirt.

Jedi,

I don't know your brother, but I'll ask some of the people I work with (they have kids in school) and see if they know him.

Later,
Bart

Digs,

I would imagine the Raptor WOULD feel slow compared to your Hayabusa. That's one of the few bikes faster than the R1 - in a straight line anyway

I made a similar post a while back about the Raptor not feeling as fast as I thought it would, but the longer I stay off the R1, the faster the Raptor feels! I guess when you're used to hitting a 100 mph in 4 1/2 seconds, most things do feel slow.

I'm going the other way. I had utility ATV's, then sport ATV's, then the YZ426, now a Raptor, and I want to get a street bike this spring.

The YZ is a bullet compared to any ATV. The power to weight ratio can't be beat by an ATV. (At least not a normal one). I really like the bike in the summer, but now in the winter, I have to ride something.... It can't be a sled 'cause it only snows here for 3 months.

The bike is great, but if you ride in mud or your other buddies have ATV's only, then go with the ATV's. You will do more riding....

Even though I only have atv's.I like dirtbike's better.I used to have a RM80 that ran when it wanted to but was pretty quick.I realy liked coming out of my driveway sideways.I also had a yz80 and A rt100 and then a RT180.The 180 definatly wasn't mxer but had enough power to play around on.I realy liked it and played like jeremy mcgrath on a RT180.Ended up jumping a little to high for the suspension. The bike kinda rebounded real fast threw me off and my mom saw it got scared and got rid of it.I find it more of a challenge to ride a bike though and I like that.

I have owned a 86 250r fourtrax new,88 250r fourtrax new and a used 88 fourtrax.
I ride 90% of the time at Glamis sand dunes.
Few years ago,I bought a used 91 CR500 then bought a new 97 CR500.
Now I own a 01 YZF 426.

The 88&89 fourtraxes are by far the best qauds out IMO(even today). Great handling and power.
The CR 500 is alot of fun but for a bike is on the heavy side(although it's not much heavier than a 250 bike it just feels heavier cause of the bigger flywheel and crank.)

I really like the YZF the best. Not as fast as the 500 but it's close. The 01 YZF is ALOT better even than the 00 YZF from what I understand and read. Even a faster motor, great handling and the best suspension of all the four strokes currently.
A really great all around bike. I can't say enough about it.

A friend of mine has a raptor and a CR250. Fun quad but I liked the 88 fourtraxes better.
I would love to have a qaud to ride at night.
It would have to be a 500 two stroke(never happen) or a YZF motor based quad.

It seems that more people are converting to bikes from qauds. Even at Glamis.
I really like them both, but I just they would make a YZF or a modern two stroke qaud.
