700 FI GRIZZ PERFORMANCE PROBLEM

700 FI GRIZZ PERFORMANCE PROBLEM
I have been having problems with reverse speed limiter engaging while I am traveling in "h".
I have been through the adjustments of the shifter several times to no avail.
The symptom is that while traveling forward the "r" light comes on and the motor sputters. It acts like a loose electrical connection that tells the machine "you are in reverse and limit your RPM". So I tightend the wire to the reverse switch. I thought I had it solved, but today it started again. It also seams to be sensitive to road bumps.
My next move is to jump the wire to ground. If this works, I think that Yamaha has bad reverse switches. The only down side to this is that the reverse light will not come on when you shift to reverse.
Has anyone experienced this problem and what solution did you reach.

700 FI GRIZZ PERFORMANCE PROBLEM
The dealers only know how to adjust the shift linkage according to the specificied length in the shop manual. This does not always correct problem. I recm shortening shift rod in one half turn increments until problem is solved. I had one of very first 700s in Northern Calif and dealers could not solve this problem after 4 returns to shop. Finally other owners solved problem and reported solution on Highlifter. So I gave up on dealer and fixed myself by simple shift rod adjustment.

700 FI GRIZZ PERFORMANCE PROBLEM
oldturtle,
I agree. I have the 6+18 month warrantee and would like to avoid using it. From what I hear, when you take the machine in and they don't find the problem, they will charge the shop rate. Also they tend to get your machine and let it sit at your inconvenience. If I have a major issue, I will take it in, but anything that I can fix, I will.
I currently have it adjusted (in "H" so that the slack is the most). I will adjust it to the tight side of slack.
Thx and best regards
