battery problems

Default battery problems

i have a 98 yamaha big bear 350 and i put a new battery on it and hookd up my wires...but now my neutral light stays on even with the key out....please help
any sugestions

MAke sure that the battery polarity is correct. Sometimes if purchased an after market brand the same size and shape and Amps the posts relative to the polarity may be opposite to the original.

well the post are right i can get it to crank but i ride it for a while and then shut it off and take the key out and the neutral light stays on still with out the key in it...it runs my battery dead

All you did is hook up the battery wires?
No other wires were touched.
How old was the old battery? Were there any OTHER problems with it before this?

Maybe a coincidence disconnect the rectifier/regulator from the circuit see if the light goes out.
Maybe the rectifier shorted and is back feeding from the battery to the circuit when the key is off.
