OK so its snowed today in new york and i went riding. i checked my oil before i left and was a little low so i added 1/4 of a quart. about ten minutes later i came home checked it again and it was high so i took its back out and now the level is fine could this have hurt the quad? Also it wont idle thing is the bike had a edelbrock carb gytr air box lid closed and a white bros e series pipe its a 2002 and the headers are glowing red the plug is a little lean on the tip but black on the threads???? Any Ideas? No mods are new and ran fine last year with this set up. Do you think its was over heating with the headers glowing red i only rode for 25 minutes the bike will start and run fine just wont idle is it ok????

Your oil level will be lower when the bike is cold. It will come up a bit when it heats up. So no you didnt hurt your bike at all. Did you rejet for the winter? Sounds like your running lean from the cold.

i had a bike (yamaha warrior) that when the CDI went bad it made it run hot like that, but it still ran like normal. took me forever to trace it down to that but once i changed it everything was fine. maybe try one off a friends bike or something? not goin to hurt anything to try it. good luck

i know the yfz450 heads glow red, and i heard the "700 raptors" do too, but about the oil thing, if it's anything like the yfz450 which i believe it is, you're supposed to start it and let it run for a couple mins, turn it off then check it to get the real level reading. Read your manual it should say whether you have to do this or not.

Any header you find on a quad are going to be single walled. The glowing red is natural because there is a lot of heat coming out of the motor. Granted there is a possibility you are running lean, pending on how your plugs are colored. Do the tips look like they are burnt? If they are slightly discolored then you are probably ok. Have you cleaned your carb since last season? IF you haven't I'd say clean your carbs and then reset your idle. Did you rejet your carb when you put the aftermarket pipe on? If you haven't, I'd say you might want to think about doing that? Might want to think about running open airbox too. If you ride a lot of wet areas then you might not want to ride with the open airbox. Just a few suggestions.
