Set the crank to "T". You do this by taking out the black plastic cap on top of the stator on the left side of the engine. You can spin the engine over with a 17mm wrech until you see the T thru the hole from the cap. Make sure you dont set it where the "F" is. Then spin the cam until BOTH valves are closed. There should be play in your rocker arms when both are closed. Then line up the mark on the cam gear with the mark on the head. The mark on the head is positioned close to 11 o'clock. If your crank is in the T position, and the cam gear and chain are on and the cam gear mark are lined up with the head mark, and your valves are fully closed, your timing will be dead on.

There is no "T" or "F" there is a full line and a half line, the half line looks a little bit deeper than the full line. just making sure the hole on the left side that takes a flat head screw driver to open above the cover that says Yamaha? Thanks

Ive never seen one like that. Mine is a'97 and it has the T and F. All the other Warriors I had the T and F also.

Turn the motor counterclockwise. TDC will be the SECOND line. The engine fires before top dead center.. so if your flywheel shows 2 lines, its F then T when turned counterclockwise. This should be double checked by looking down the sparkplug hole. The piston should stop moving when it hits TDC and be on its way back down if you keep turning the crank. Don't forget.. counterclockwise.

Who is CWR? And it might be a good idea to start your own post and not take over this one. But while Im here, you could have the cam 180 degrees off. The cam turns one time for every two times the crank turns. So you have to make sure the cam is not "upside down". To do this, make sure both valves are closed (play in the rocker arms) And the cam mark is lined up with the mark on the head. With that lined up, then line up your "T" on the crank. If you cranked it while it was 180 off, the piston might have hit the valve and bend it, then it wont ever start until you replace the valve. Trust me, I learned the hard way a long time ago!
