Warrior stalled and won't start ideas? hellp?

I'm posting this question on behalf of my friend. I realize he still has not done some basic trouble shooting like checking the spark yet but thought I would still ask.
Here goes, he has an 01 warrior stock except pipe basically, was driving around his yard then it stalled, tried to start back up and it cranks but wont fire up. Two weekends ago the starter was replaced. He says he can hear it trying to start up and it is cranking. There is no clicking solenoid or dead battery sound. This leads me to believe its not the starter. And if its trying to start, it shouldn't be the battery. Could it be just a coincidences that the starter was replaced and 2 weeks later he is having starter problems?
I know he has not checked for spark, has not tried to tow/bump start it yet.
I believe he is planning on getting a new spark plug tomorrow to see if that is the problem.
I (and so would he) would appreciate any ideas on how to trouble shoot this problem.
Any ideas?

Mine did that one time and I found a wire in the back by the CDI box that had rubbed the frame until it grounded itself out. Of course I would check the obvious before I started tracing wires. Ive never seen a Warrior foul a spark plug before.
