Default Warrior - sputter sometimes backfire????

98 warrior, all i have is a supertrapp pipe and all i kno is tt when i bought it it had a sputter and it sounds like the timing is off or maybe the carb but i changed out everything in the carb, i tried a carb rebuild kit, and i even tried changing the needle up and down the notches middle being the best, it has a 145 main jet now, the kit came with a 120 which made things a ton worse, all i kno is IT IDLES FINE and even towards up to 200 rpm or so but thts all and than it sputter and i cnt gain any rpms.........help me i would really appreciate it !!!!

tyvm , John

P.S. the plug is carbonated (black) and dry

So, it's at idle, and if you hit the gas it seems like it just hits a wall, kinda like a rev limiter, and won't go any higher? Sounds to me like the parking brake switch is your problem, it sets a rev limiter at 2,000 rpm, about 600 rpm above idle, and they are known to be a problem on yamahas.

I'm fairly confident that's the issue. Take off the headlights and hood, and follow the wires from the clutch perch down to where they plug into the harness. The parking brake switch will have a single plastic connector. Unplug that and your useless pb rev limiter is bypassed.

it just seems really strange that it idles normally and won't rev up at all. Usually when valves leak it seems like the idling is the first thing that goes to hell.
