What axle do I have?
#1
I bought a used 99 warrior and the axle has one of those posi-lock nuts on it. There is a groove on the axle where a snap ring goes and the outer edge of the inner sleeve of the lock-nut is supposed to cover the snap ring but it just pushes up against it as if the snap ring is too thick and not the right one. I am not sure, however.
If I leave it like that, I'm pretty sure it will push the snap ring out of the groove. When I got the quad, the Posi-Lock nut was just sitting around the axle, not tight and would just spin freely. The axle would move all over the place. It took me some time, but I finally got the outer nut freed from the threaded inner sleeve so I could adjust it.
I've been searching the net for all different kinds of axles to see if I can find out which one I have, but noone has definitive close up pictures of their axles so I can't make a comparison to mine.
Is there a way I can tell which axle I have so I can get the right snap ring. If that is the problem, of course. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Does anyone know anything about these aftermarket axles? I saw somewhere that someone said the sleeve tightens up against the snap ring, but on the web site for Durablue axles, they say it should go over the snap ring so it doesn't come off. I don't know if it is a durablue axle or not, but even if not, I think the end of the sleeve should go over the snap ring too. The end of the sleeve has a tapered spot inside which would suggest that is the case. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I got this quad used so I'm trying to restore it to normal instead of all the jerry rigging they had done on it. Thank you!

I have a Durablue and it sounds like I have exactly what you have. I wasnt thrilled with the locknut design and I didnt know thats what I was getting when I ordered it. All the pictures I could find on the net either showed the older style or the picture wasnt up close enough to see how to install it. The nut does rest on the inside of the snap ring and the other side presses against your axle bearings. Mines been like this for about a year with no problems. Sounds like someone didnt tighten it or install it properly. I dont think Lonestar makes one for a Warrior. If they do, I couldnt find one.

Thanks guys. I got a chance to pull the axle out and found that the person I got it from had the wrong snap ring on that side. There are 2 snap rings. One on the sprocket side and one on the brake disc side. He had them reversed. The groove on the brake disc side is deeper than the groove on the sprocket side and he had the smaller snap ring where the bigger one should have been. I just switched them around and all is fine now. It fits over the snap ring nice now. As long as the axle is in right now. Maybe the side of the axle with the deeper groove should be on the sprocket side with the posi-lock nut. Right now the posi-lock nut is on the sprocket side but the end of the axle with the smaller groove is also on that side. I'm thinking maybe the deeper groove should be on that side but maybe it don't matter.
Can anyone tell which axle it might be from that info? There is an old decal or sticker on it but I can't make it out. It looks like toward the outer end of the axle that the Decal is green.
