Default Help removing a swing arm bolt.

Need advise on how to remove a swing arm bolt. Does it just slide out? I have been pounding away on it with a hammer and it has not moved at all. It could be frozen in place with rust but I was wondering if I should keep pounding on it and it will eventually come out.

Just pound the crap out of it, but be damn careful not to hit your frame. They are known to rust or seize in there pretty good. You probably want to just go ahead and order a new bolt, when they get stuck in there the bolt is usually fubar by the time you get it out. It took me a while to get mine out the first time. When you put the thing back in just grease it up as much as humanly and physically possible so it comes out the next time.

RELAXXXXXX don't pound the crap out of it you might mess up your threads...... but make sure ur swing arm is level with the frame so it would have pressure becuase if it has pressure of course it not going to move and take out your rear shock if you have too and then you could hit the bolt with alot of force and then if you cant hit the bolt because its inside the swing arm take something with a good length and put it in there and start beating the crap out of that and hopefully that could push it out......GOOD LUCK BRO

Yeah like Yamaha said be careful to try not to mess up your threading. But if you do, you could get a tap. Not the end of the world. But obviously you're better off without it .

I agree with recon.

I really don't see how any of that would work at all. First, it's sealed so pb blaster will never get in there. If you even did manage to get it in there I doubt it would do much. And what are vice grips going to do for you? I don't know if you ever actually removed a really stubborn one, but I have, and it's not worth all the frustration and hassle trying to salvage a $10 bolt that will probably end up getting trashed anyways. I've had some stuck so bad before that I had to spread the frame apart with some bar clamps and cut through the pivot and bolt with a sawzall on both sides.

Put a 3/8" extension in the center of the bolt and pound until the bolt comes out. Lifting the rear of the frame helps but it won't make a stuck bolt easy to remove, a 3 lb sledge and an extension to keep the thread from getting crushed will do the trick every time. If it's not coming loose, hit it harder, it will come out eventually. When you put it back in, sand down all the surface rust and grease it good so you don't have to beat it as hard the next time.

Same here. Had one on an atc 250r that I had to cut out with a plasma cutter after 2weeks of oiling it and hammering on it. Even used an air hammer on it with no luck.

Default Help removing a swing arm bolt.

Well I have pounding with a 3lb hammer for about 3 days. I think when I rolled the bike backwards and it landed on the axle, it bent the bolt. I have already damaged the bolt to where I had to get a Dremal tool and cut the damaged end off. I am pretty sure the bolt is bent inside because what I can turn on the bolt, the axle moves up and down. Any other ideas?

When all else fails there just isn't much to do except cut it out between the swingarm and frame on both sides.
