LT250R.
and as far as technology of todays quads- 4 stroke engines are really the advancement.
they had alum swing arms, some had upper alum a arms...just like today. ok i'll give you alum subframes and standard front rezzie shocks but you could buy that back in the day...
prob the most tech advanded machine on the market have been the cannondales with all alum frames, efi... then now (4+ years later) the kawa 450, raptor 700 and ltr450 would be the most technologically advanced today...
i know efi is coming to every sport and ute in the future but since its not everywhere now i cant say its and advancement that benefits all yet.
yamaha admittedly copied the trx250r as a blueprint for their yfz so the technology of
yesteryear cant be that bad...it only took nearly 20yrs for them to finally make a bike to rival the TRX250R. i remember when the 450 class was pushing the 250s out that allot of the pro racers stated that they wish they were on their 250s still..why? b/c they handled better and just had the snap. the only point the 450s had them on was to be able to lug them out more in the turns. then they became status quo. ask 8 time champ gary denton which bike he used for the majority of his wins....and which one he thinks (after riding the offerings from all and being paid recently by suzuki on their stuff in comercials) will be better in races today....yep, his good ole TRX250R.

i`ll put my blaster against any "piped only" lt250r any day of the week and twice on sunday and show you a 240 blaster can spank a "piped only" lt250r.i know because i`ve done it.
but then again.....mines a full blown race motor that i have over 3 grand into the engine alone.heeheehee!

In a straight line maybe. Put it in a REAL race environment and you don't have the slightest bit of a chance. The 250's aren't built for speed only, you're talking about a full size quad that weighs less than most mini quads, and suspension that is surprisingly refined for it's time. Vs a small, narrow, short unstable blaster with 5 inches of travel and pogo-sticks in place of real shocks. Hehe, blasters make me laugh.
