Default Aftermarket tires for a 450 Grizzly

I've recently become the proud owner of a new '07 Grizzly 450. I heard that buying aftermarket tires is one of the best upgrades you can do on a quad. So, I am going to buy a big wheel kit: 26" ITP Mudlites with ITP Type 4 rims. My question is regarding tire size. The stock tires are 25x8x12 on the front and 25x10x12 on the back. I've decided to go with 26x9x12 for the front, but I'm not sure what size to get for the back. The Mudlites are available in 10" or 12". Based on having 9" on the front, would I be better off with 10"on the back, or should I go for the 12"?
~Thanks~

Great choice on tires and wheels. I'd go with the 12" on the back just for the extra tread on the ground.
The 26" is also the way to go! Thats also a great Trouble free quad you bought. It will climb a tree if you want it to.Check out mine wheels on my kodiak in my pictures and welcome to the form.

Thanks for the feedback. I've read through some other posts and it seems like the majority of people went with 12's on the back, but most of them have 10's on the front, so I wasn't sure if having 9's on the front & 12's on the back was too much of a difference in size. (I considered going w/10's on the front but have heard that they might rub, so I'll stick with the 9's to be on the safe side.)

One thing to remember with the 450 is that the aftermarket rims will stick out past your fenders and the 12" tires will stickout a little further. I'd go with the 10".
Good luck and have fun!

D'oh! I received two conflicting answers. Guess I'll have to wait for one more person to reply so they can be the tie-breaker.

FYI- I installed the after-market fenders on my Grizz, so those do make the quad a little wider...

You want have any problem as long as you get the right wheel made with an offset for your IRS quad. When you order your wheels they should ask what model are you going to put them on. They know what offset to send you. I have the ITP wheels with 12" tires and have plenty of room for even bigger tires. Here's a link to a great place to buy from. Call and talk to Matthew. He can answer any question about offset's and which one you will need, even if you buy them somewhere else.

Camo..the only aftermarket wheel they make for the Kodiak is a 2+5 offset and a 5+2 offset. That includes ITP, Douglas, Maxxis and Interco. I had 10" tires with the proper ITP C5series rim and even with the Yamaha aftermarket over fenders, the tires still stuck out an inch. After calling all the above wheel manufacturers the answer is still the same. 2+5 offset. What that means is the rim is offset 2" to the outside and 5" to the inside. ITP's website under the specification page even states it will make the Kodiak 4" wider (2" each side). You may have room for higher and maybe even wider tires but getting muddy on every ride sin't always fun...at least not in 40deg temps. I'm just trying to educate people that even though the rims look nice, depending on their riding style the Kodiak (Grizzly)450 is one of the few ATV's where aftermarket tires do stick out. The stability is great but after getting muddy constantly, I went back to stock rims.
Hope I'm not confusing anyone.

I'm running 26/10/12 front and 26/12/12 rear 26" mudlites with type 7 rims on both of my 450's. Also added overfenders after getting mud everywhere. May be just me but I have to pay close attention when ridding around rocks and roots, those wider front tires really grab alot more than stock.

I put mud lites on itp rims on my kodiak 450 they do stick out further and don't for get you will lose power with more agressive tires. The 450 is a great machine, but it isn't a 650 or 700. I would stay with the 25 inch tires, if you go too big the 450 might be a little too under powered for that. go get muddy

what I just--- said forget it. I have 26" tires on there and it does fine. I had a brane fart there. but you will lose some power. If you put them on right away you won't know the difference.
