2002 raptor high RPM problems please help
#1
Hello fellow riders I need your help regarding my 2002 raptor
My quad idles great, and runs good at mid range. But when I hit the 80% to 100% wide open; it starts to spudder, slows down, engine almost wants to die, and has very poor performance at this range. I also sort of think it is a tad bit slow on throttle response. My quad has some slight mods; which are mod jetting, after market pipe (C. Sparks), after marker CDI box (which cuts out rev-limiter and advances timing). I already searched the forums here and some one else had this problem and some of you guys suggested float needle sticking, and dirty air filter. I took apart my carbs and no sticking needles and jets were clean and not sticking. My filter is clean, I even took off my air box cover when I ran it. Do you think the engine is starved for gas? I thought of bending down the tabs on the floats, which I believe will increase the gas level in the bowels. Do you think this will be a good idea? Would this be the air/fuel mixture adjustment problem? Please help me, I rather fix it my self than a shop. Thank you in advance and your time.

It sounds like your timing is NOT advancing at high rpms so try putting back the factory stock cdi and see what happens. It is NOT uncommon for aftermarket cdi's to fail even at almost new condition.
