Default Raptor rear shock installation on 1998 Warrior

There had been a lot of discussion about using a 2001 Raptor 660 rear shock as a replacement for any year Warrior (although many of the threads are years old). Well I decided to try it. All the notes suggested it was a direct bolt on replacement for the Warrior shock. The installation went easy enough, but the bottom coil of the spring grounds out against the forward linkage when the suspension is in full rebound (rear axle suspended). Is that expected? Wouldn't both parts beat each other to death over time? Any advice would be appreciated.

Should I have included the Raptor shock linkages instead of keeping the stock Warrior linkages?
