Default Moto 4 Cam Chain

Hey guys, I want to remove my head on my ATV it is a Moto 4 1989 I think the older one. But i am wondering is it hard to Keep the cam chain right? because i want to remove my head to see if everything is fine in there. And I am also wondering when i remove it will i have to change the piston rings? Because the bike is very old been sitting outside and i want to get her back running

you need to get a copy of the timing marks, because invariably it will move a little on you either way. removing the head is fairly simple to do though. what size is your moto 4?

As far as the rings, they are cheap but if you are that far into the bike, you should probably replace the rings, piston and have the cylinder machined to the next available size piston and replace the cam chain as well.

I just rebuilt the engine on a 87 moto 4 80cc and it cost me less than 200.00 for the cam chain, .25 over piston and rings, intake valve, headgasket and cylinder base gasket, as well as the labor to replace the intake valve and reseat them in the head, and the overbore on the cylinder.

well do not count on marking the cam chain because you will invariably get it out of time anyway I will try to upload a pic of the timing marks and how to do it

If you want to pm your email address I will email you a service manual excerpt for a valve adjustment which also shows the timing marks on it to make sure that you have everything lined up right.
