They are not junk. They are very good winches. I had a Venom 2500 but it was faulty from the factory and it burnt up. I had it for over 8 month, the waranty was only 3 months and the nice people gave me a full refund and even paid the shipping to ship the old one back. I now have an Xtreme 3000# waterproof.... same company as Venom and same winch, just a different name. I think that Venom is packaging a remote where as the Xtreme doesn't have the remote but you can get one for it. The 3000# was around $106 delivered. You can replace the winch about 4 times for the cost of a Warn... I figure if I replace it a few times I still have a new winch instead of an old Warn...

Buy a Warn or other expensive winch if you want, you may regret it later. My friend has a Warn, it is on it's second rebuild. Cost as much to rebuild as it cost for a new Xtreme. He told me that if he did not have so much money invested in the Warn that he would chuck it and by a Venom or Xtreme - this comes from a 'die-hard' Warn owner.
You are the one to ultimately decide. I look at it this way, a new winch is better than an old rebuilt one, and if it is less costly in the long run then what the heck.

Yea I guess its just luck.I bought one of those venom winches for my polaris after 3 uses it burrned up..But I hear the same thing from Warn's..I went with the Warn this time because their mounting kit tucks it back under the oil cooler, doesent stick out past by front bars..Kinda hard to see in this pic,but other mounting kits looked horrible..

Anyone have any problems wiring up their venom winch? I installed mine last night and ran the wires according to the small color paper attached to the distribution block. It appears I have power at the battery, to the block, but not going back to the motor? I don't know much about electricity except you can't see it and it hurts when you get hit with it.

Should the contact block be grounded other than back to the battery?

Any random thoughts, suggestions, tips for those who installed one.

I assume rocker switch= thumb switch?

One question that first came to mind is where does the red wire from the switch go to? see picture below. I put a butt connector on the end of that one.. I think/HOPE that is where my problem resides.
