Default 2004 Wolverine Front Locker

Hello, don't mind the newbie, not to familiar with forums but I have a question for you. I've searched as many topics as I could to find out if there is any information about a front locker for the 2004 Wolvy. I know the front diff. is a little different than an '02 or '01 Wolvy but has anybody come up with a solution to why I can't get a locker. Could I change my front diff. with an '02 or older Wolverine or even a big bear? Your sugestions appreciated. Sorry if this had been a question posted before.

Is it a 350 4x4?? if so I hear nothing really changed between 03 an 05 with the 350 Wolverine 4x4..But imo locking the front differential is not a good idea, with the limited slip front differential it has now makes it much better to steer and it handles way better in 4x4..And even with the Warn 424 when the front differential is disengaged the front wheels are still locked,so you will still have the same handling problems as in 4x4 mode..

In 1st and 2nd gear the stock limited slip front differential, can pull you out of some deep mud,I have been in it trust me..In the end the Wolverine is a sport quad, you want it to handle good..now with those monster 4x4 utility quads locking the front end might be a good idea..Really I'd read up on the limited slip front differential before pulling the trigger on this one..

Yep, 350 4x4, haven't installed the 424 as of yet. I see what you mean about the locker always being engaged even with the 424. I wonder if anybody else has a 424 and a locker and is it really noticeable? I read an article on a IRS 2001 modded wolverine in Dirt Wheels and he had the whole setup with the FST 446 but with a Grizzly IRS, he had a 424 with the Highlifter locker and they mentioned that the locker was installed but no mention on it giving them grief or even noticeable in 2x4 and sport riding. I've phoned Highlifter and they couldn't give me an answer as to why I couldn't install the locker on a 2004 wolvy, just '95 to '01. I took a look at the parts fiche and there is a few differences like shims and a different part number for the differential itself from '01 compared to '04. I know the wolverine is a sport quad but i've been in many situations where the locker would come in handy, probably even a 446 jobby. Maybe i'll look around a bit more first before I get carried away. Thanks toddmh for your help.

The 424 unlocker is the best money spent on my Wolverine. Amazing difference, and it never gave me any problems, worked great. As for the locker the best thing would be to get the gearless locker like you said. The gearless locker still allows the wheels to rotate independantly when turning, only when one wheel starts to spin the other grabs as well, IMO the gearless locker and 424 are the best combo instead of just a regular 100% positive locking locker. Dont get me wrong...you WILL feel the locker up front, but it's nothing to worry about.

That's good news, i guess if you can live with the ratcheting (i'm just assuming, never riddin a quad with one) then you have the option of full 4x4 when your messin' in the mud. I still don't feel safe ordering the locker to find out it don't work with the 2004 though still. Anybody install the highlifter gearless locker in a 2003-04 Wolverine?
Thanks for the info atv_man.
