I have a 2005 Yamaha Grizzly 125. My son rides it. What kind of riding are you going to do? What are you looking for in a quad for her? How big is she and what does she want from a quad?

we mostly ride on an old rail bed in Maine so the trails are not that challenging, she's a light weight at about 110 and wants something easy to handle Thanks for the reply.

Well it sounds like it might work for you. The Grizzly 125 used to be the Yamaha Breeze. In 05 they changed the plastics and the name so the design has been around for a while. My son is 14 and a pretty big boy. He keeps up with us just fine. It has been my experience that the bigger the quad the more comfortable the ride. The 125 has forward and reverse and is two wheel drive. We chose it as a quad that wouldn't be too big for him and it is one he won't outgrow in a year. As for reliablity, as I said the design has been around a while as seems to be tried and true. I went to Pismo Beach and a quad rental company uses the Breeze as a rental quad. If you don't want all the bells and whistles you should do fine with this quad.

Make sure your wife test drives the Grizzly 125 herself before you buy it! We have had one since 2005, when we bought one for my son who was nine years old at the time. He had previously ridden a Scrambler 50 when he was 6, and a Honda TRX 90 when he was 7 & 8, and the Grizzly 125 was a reasonable next step up at age 9. At 11 years of age he now complains the Grizzly has no power and no brakes, but he is also used to riding his KTM 65cc motocross bike, and that little bike will out run a Rhino 660 pretty easily. So he is used to more speed, and now the Grizzly 125 collects dust in the garage.

Our Grizzly 125 has been 100% reliable, and just keeps on putting along. It has been a good quad, and is fun for an adult to cruise around camp with as a pit bike. I wouldn't plan on much more than cruising around camp though; top speed is about 30 mph as best I could tell. It really has very little power, so make sure that is what you want before you buy it. It also has no foot brake, and the hand brakes are marginal, but have been "ok" with a 70 lb rider like my son. It scares me more than him when I see him ride it someplace that would make you want better brakes, like a steep downhill.

We're going to trade the Grizzly 125 on a Raptor 250 near Christmas time. Have you considered a Raptor 250? It might be a better quad for an adult. Just a thought.

thanks for the reply. I'm not sure about the raptor because it is a manual tranny.I have a 9 y.o. grandson that will share the 125 he has a 50 kawi now that he has been rideing since he was 5 and is too big for it now. problem is that age requirements don't jive.

Is there an age requirement? I ride in California and out here there are only age guidelines. There are requirements for safety classes and adult supervision, but no laws on engine cc size.

In Maine to ride the trails right now I believe its 12 with an adult, they are going down to 10 with a safety course. As far as the atv itself 5-12 50cc,12-16 90cc. 16 up unlimited now I'm not sure if those are guidelines or laws or what they would allow on the trails

A lot of people out here think they are laws but they are guidelines. In California the laws are in the motor vehicles codes. I don't mean to suggest that 10yr olds should ride 600's. The size of an atv should depend on the size and ability of the rider.

Check out http://www.maine.gov/ifw/rv/atvlaws.htm

I found this there.
§13154-A. Age restrictions

1. Minimum age. Except as provided in subsection 5, a person under 10 years of age may not operate an ATV.

2. Permitting child under 10 years to operate ATV. Except as provided in subsection 6, a person may not permit a child under 10 years of age to operate an ATV.

3. Unlawfully operating ATV by person 10 to under 16 years of age. Except as provided in subsection 6, a person 10 years of age or older but under 16 years of age may not operate an ATV unless that person has successfully completed a training course approved by the department pursuant to section 13152 and is accompanied by an adult.

4. Person under 16 years of age crossing public way. A person under 16 years of age may not cross a public way maintained for travel unless the crossing is in accordance with section 13157-A, subsection 6, paragraph A and the person satisfies the requirements of subsection 3.

5. Permitting an unaccompanied person under 16 years of age to operate an ATV. Except as provided in subsection 6, a person may not permit an unaccompanied person 10 years of age or older but under 16 years of age to operate an ATV.

6. Exceptions for certain property. This section does not apply to the operation of an ATV on:

A. The land on which the operator is domiciled;
B. Land owned or leased by the operator's parent or guardian; or
C. A safety training site approved by the department.
