Default Kodiak 400 slipping?

I just bought a used 2001 4x4 kodiak 400 ultramatic. The seat of my pants feeling tells me that it's slipping more than it should. It just seems to rev a little higher than I think it should when accelerating. I've not ridden another belt driven quad back to back so I'm not really sure. Also, from a stand still it barely breaks traction when I accelerate at full throttle. There just seems to be an awful lot of motor spin upon accelerating. I was wondering if I should inspect the belt and if I do, can the cover be put back on and use the old gasket. I don't want to get stuck taking it off on a saturday and be stuck waiting on a new gasket till the end of the week.

The belt cover is pretty easy to remove after you remove the right side floorboard assembly....It comes equipped with a thick rubber gasket that can be reused...I just bought a kevlar belt on ebay for like 50 bucks....I had problems with water getting into the belt houseing,,,,the font vent tube was completly disconnected,,so ya might wanna check both vents to assure there is not water in there

I would say either the belt is stretched enough to slip, or the grease is out of the primary clutch assembly.

Default Kodiak 400 slipping?

Well I inspected everything yesterday and it actually looked good. The belt looked like it had recently been replaced, it measured 1 and 1/8 inches across and the clutch looked clean and lubricated. I fired it up with the cover off and while in park I revved the engine and the clutch appeared to travel back and forth with ease. The only thing I did notice was the plate surfaces were glazed so I took that off with some 120 grit sandpaper. It seemed to really make a diference when I put it back together. Thanks again for the help.
