i have a neighbor that wants to trade me a 01 660 rap for my sons 04 80 rap, i have heard bad things about the 01 660's having bad trannys. The 660 seems to run good but has some slippage in 2 thru 5, lots of power in 1st but when u change gears and throttle up the motor revs like the tires are spinning but they're not, does this sound like a clutch issue or a tranny malfunction, if its an easy fix like a clutch is it a god trade?

i whould stay away from the 01 raptor. it might just be a clutch. but if it is not the kit to fix it is like almost $800 just for the parts and like 1500-2000 if you cant do it yourself.

I would stay away from it. Sounds like you would have to invest too much into it.

All I hear so far is that the clutch needs replacement - $60 - $100 do it yourself... more obviously if not. How much is the 80 worth? I'd certainly make that trade, even if the tranny needed work too. '01's are going from between $2600 and $4000 around here (So Cal) depending on mods and state of repair.

The '01 tranny was weaker then '02 and beyond, but many of them are still out there working just fine. From what you've described, the tranny is not currently an issue. You would notice it, believe me. Typically 2nd gear will have a large "clunk" every revolution or won't work at all.

Your decision, of course, but I'd deal with it solely as a value issue first, assuming you want a 660. If it was me, I'd be trading.

Ive heard of people having problems with the 01 raptors. There are 3 of them in our group and no one has had any problems. Ive got a few mods ( pipe/jet/cam/cdi/airfilter) and I ride the bike hard, but take care of it too. Personally i dont think theres anything wrong with them, maybe alot ot people out there dont know how to shift right? lol

thanx for reply everyone, i made the trade. i rode all day today. the bike ran great, a little sluggish after 1st gear but only for a few feet. everyone that rode it says its just the gearing being different from what im used to. it put me on my *** about 3 times for throttling up to quick, lol. i am very satisfied cant wait to make a few mods so i can really hurt myself. i have beeen riding a 350 warrior for 4 years, big time adjuustment getting used to this powerhouse. ride hard and be safe all.thanx again.
