Engine questions...
#1
I recently purchased my first quad in a long time. I got an 06' Wolverine, 2wd, 350. I was wandering if this is the same engine as the 421 (450). I cannot see Yamaha running two different motors that relatively VERY close in spec.
Is the 350 and the 450 the same setup, with maybe a cylinder sleeve or something? If so, I see a conversion coming on...

I seriously doubt they are the same. If they were, somebody would have already been swapping them. Unless you are a mechanical engineer with unlimited access to an engine machine shop and have the ability to fabricate custom engine parts, I would recommend just modifying your 350 engine. It only takes a few thousandths of an inch to be off on an engine to screw everything up.

Yeah Yamaha will run two engines close in size, they still offer the grizzly 660(exactly 660ccs), and the grizzly 700(686ccs), your only getting 26 more ccs and a 0.2 bigger bore if i recall correctly.

I did some more research. The "450" is liquid cooled, while mine has an oil cooler. Oh well...
Wonder if a 450 out of a Raptor would bolt up to the tranny? If so, think it would take it? This is the same setup that Yamaha has been running for a while from what I gather... up to 450 ccs if I am not mistaken.

A 450 Raptor? Lets see..they have a Raptor 50, 80, 250, 350, 660, 700.........Did I leave any out? Bout sick of the Raptor name...I guess I need to change mine, huh? Never heard of a factory Raptor 450. I made mine with a Raptor 350 with a 446 (450) kit from FST. You can go here http://www.fourstroketech.net/ click on engine products, then Yamaha, then Wolverine and they have all the stuff to give your Wolvy almost all the power you can get out of it. I know it's not cheap, but for woods reliability reasons I recommend the 366 kit over the 446, a cam, a pipe, filter, jets, valves, and a port job. That would be more reliable than trying to rig up another motor. I hate to keep raining on your parade, but there's nothing cheap about ATVs, you gotta pay to play.
