Awesome....definitely keep us updated.
lagasss, not to take away from the wolvy or anything....but why not just cut your losses and trade it in on a renegade 800 or something? I know having something custom built is always more fun, but thats a lot of work for not that much more power. I would rather swap in a yamaha R6 or R1 motor in if I were going through all the hassle.

I wish I had it on my bruin. The few times I have got in some sticky mud with it, low range would have been nice...it barely had the power to get the wheels moving, and Im sure some better gearing (or low range) would have helped me pull out. I also tried to use it to pull out my wolverine when I got that burried before I installed the winch, it didnt have enough grunt to even budge it. My buddies grizz 700 made an easy task of it. I know the grizz has a lot more power and weight, but the low range is what really did it.
If I were you, I would definitely spend the extra money and get the 450 with the low range.

Yeah- I'm tryin' to examine every angleon this, don't wanna end up later that I couldda, wouldda, shouldda. I'm figuring the worst I'll see is 2 feet on snow- and well, having been thru that w/o a 4x I think I'd probably get to another point where I'd swear that a low range would've been the tick. That and the difference of $700, the 450 it is............

MIwolvy the renegade is a 100 pounds heavier and the wolvy all ready is to heavy ! I feel that the wolvy is the best all round machine out there, just needs a little more umpfff. Yamaha should have put at least a 4 valves head in there or better the 700 FI motor !!! I will check to see if the Rhino 660 motor could fit. Another option will be to change the head for a 4 valves head or last option the big bore...
By the way, I went in a small enduro (mud and wood trails) race with friends today and I smoked then :-). They have 660 raptors and 450 trx's. That was possible because of agressive riding and the agility and ease of driving of the wolverine. This would have not been possible with a huge Renegade. To heavy, not agile in woods.

Unless you are running variable valve timing or something crazy, a two valve motor can do just as well as a 4 or 5 valve. The change is that the 4 and 5 valve motors will be happy making power into the +8500 rpm range but the 2 valve motor will be happy at maybe 4k or 5k. Its the same when a race cam will make your motor idle funny.. you move the power range of the motor out of its normal design spec and other areas drop off. Find out what power range you want then tune the motor and your clutch to it. If you ever talk to someone racing snowmobiles you will notice there is never a lack of horsepower.. the biggest problem is getting that power to the ground where and when you want it. The same 120HP sled can win a drag race or a top speed run.. the only change is clutching between races.

First off before anyone jumps the gun I checked last years rhino 450 and it only has a 2 valve head, I belive that the current year spec sheet is incorrect. BTW the Grizz / Kodiak 450 and the rhino 450 are the same animals and the only difference between them and the wolverine 450 is that the 450 engine is missing the low range gear set.

All year model Rhino 450's are four-valve's -- Check this site out, great for looking up parts, and with prices -- http://www.yamahaaccy.com/parts.aspx BTW hows that Big Bore Kit coming along?
